Donald Trump: I Will Know The Difference Between Hamas And Hezbollah 'When It's Appropriate'

4 September Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump did not take kindly in a radio interview on Thursday to being asked to identify the affiliations of various militant leaders in the Middle East, saying the host was asking “a gotcha question”.

Discussing Islamist extremism, conservative talk-radio host Hugh Hewitt told Trump he was looking for the next president to identify the leaders of major militant groups, naming the heads of Islamic State, Hezbollah, al-Qaida and its Nusra Front wing in Syria.

“Do you know the players without a scorecard yet, Donald Trump?” asked Hewitt, who will co-moderate the next official Republican presidential debate on 16 September in California.

“No, you know, I’ll tell you honestly, I think by the time we get to office, they’ll all be changed. They’ll be all gone,” Trump replied.

“The names you just mentioned, they probably won’t even be there in six months or a year,” he added.

Hassan Nasrallah has headed Hezbollah since 1992.

Hewitt pushed Trump on the question, asking him: “So the difference between Hezbollah and Hamas does not matter to you yet, but it will?”

Trump replied: “It will when it’s appropriate. I will know more about it than you know, and believe me, it won’t take me long.”

The billionaire real estate mogul has risen to the top of the polls in a crowded Republican field more than a year before the November 2016 election.

When Hewitt said these were not meant as “gotcha” questions, Trump responded: “Well, it sounded like gotcha. You’re asking me names that, I think it’s somewhat ridiculous, but that’s OK. Go ahead, let’s go.”

I don’t understand those who want to act as though his past has no relevance to how he might act as president, and attack anyone who dares the suggest it might.

My first vote was for Jimmy Carter...My second vote was for Ron Reagan...So your argument has no credibility with me...

We know the political position of every candidate up there...The worst Trump could do if he is pulling the wool over our eyes is that he'd resort to taking up the policies and positions of those others running...What do we have to lose by supporting Trump???

This is a coordinated takedown of Trump. Makes me wonder if the many married lady “Christian” is really a “Christian” or the vile paid protesters/hoax “Christians” of the “Westboro Baptist Church” of Satan.

I added the “of Satan” part. But seriously, there is so much hoax protesting, paid shills with printed signs going on, it makes economic sense for the Establishment to be paying these hoaxers to keep our minds off the big picture while they shove another GOPe liar down our throats.

Thanks. Usually I can skim past the tripe, but every so often it goes just so far off the rails I can’t help but comment!

I think some of us are more interested in the Big Picture now, not some remark made 10 to 15 years ago. We are also uninterested in nit picking which some conservatives do as bad as liberals. I remember that Harry Truman knew NOTHING about the Atomic Bomb but he is the one to drop it on japan after the death of Roosevelt. He did just fine when the time came and I am sure Trump will do just fine whatever history dishes up.

No, that's not the worst he could do. He could go back to his previous positions, which are a lot worse than the ones held by many of the other candidates. What do we have to lose by supporting Trump? Maybe nothing - maybe a whole lot. And we don't have anything to give us assurance that his conservative conversion is sincere and lasting other than his word... At least with some other candidates, they have a track record that you can compare to their rhetoric.

That kind of blind faith in any politician is scary to me.

As I thought, you’re rebuttal would be strong.

I admit, thinking that someone change SO MANY ways of thinking in the span of several years is hard to swallow.

Glaringly, his going after Romney for being too hard on illegals and now wanting wholesale deportation (an event I think is good but would amount to riots not seen since the 60s or worse)is odd, to say the least.

I admit, I might have kept my mouth shut about secretly supporting Trump after a few weeks of hearing him speak, but when people who have been on this board for a while did, I jumped in. Typical human :)

Have heard Fiorina did well with those questions! That stupid speech about muslim culture after 9/11 was dumb, but that can be said of a number of Trump’s antics.

It boils down to I am desperate. Would a good president help? A little, I guess. He’s not going to cut spending, just slow down the rate. We are WAY past that.

Most wont have the courage (besides Cruz, and that 500% h1b increase really irks me, but it’s about the only issue i have with him) to roll back the insanity with gay marriage and other sick nonsense.

So you get desperate for a madman with a plan. Many of us think it takes someone a little insane at this point to take back our country.

Or it’s lost.

You did make me realize that it is early, and one cant be blinded to their candidate’s inadequacies. I like Trump and Cruz, and I will see which way the winds blow as time moves forward, one of the few things we can count on happening with certainty.

Oh jeez - ok hose, thanks, I won’t bother responding to any of your nonsense anymore. Me a liberal? That’s a knee slapper! If I thought it worth my time, I’d find the perfect label to pin on you - you’re just not worth the effort!

It isn’t blind faith. It is well reasoned and researched analysis of the capabilities of each contender. I then weigh the possibility of election and select my preferred candidate.
I don’t trust anyone, let along politicians, but a selection must be made and at least my selection is well thought out. No to Carly, no to Bush, no to Rubio, and so on down the line based on extensive research which is weighted according to its importance.
We have to elect someone who can make decisions clearly and based on excellent advice. We can no longer risk a lilylivered go along to get along unaccomplished piece of HS with no qualifications other than a slick tongue and/or a pretty face.
We need someone to make us proud again to be Americans and who will throw the naysayers and communist teachers and politicians out of our country. We start by building a wall.
