Just speculating here, but perhaps the county is heavily Democrat. In many places a Republican has very little to no chance of being elected to any office. It’s true where I live. Here, we have only one party, but on the off chance someone wants to run as a Republican, he has to be liberal.

There was a time when we had conservative Democrats — conservative on social issues, but not on fiscal and diplomatic issues. Those days are gone.

By the same token, there are few conservative Republicans. These days there is little to no difference between the two parties. If I had my way, conservatives would bolt from the Republican Party and let it die on the vine.

You are most likely right. But then I ask. Since the dems have long been in favor of abortion and gay marriage why didn’t her Christian values kick in then and denounce the dem party and stand up and run as a conservative? Yes, she may have lost but it seems like she is saying she is the type of person who just cannot go against her principles. Unless it is a cushy government job with great bennies and a pension?

You either believe in something or you don’t.
