This was Nebraska’s answer to win National Championships. The started recruiting the inner city youth from LA County and it paid off in the Win column. Then Colorado started doing this and had the same success (Rae Carruth).
Unfortunately some of these student athletes had problems with the law and once in college the only thing they had to worry about was winning at all costs. As for Nebraska the whole Lawrence Phillips thing is not indicative of the program Tom Osborne had built on the backs of their traditional home grown student athletes.
