Pope to allow all priests to forgive abortion during Holy Year

Pope Francis will give all priests discretion during the Roman Catholic Church's upcoming Holy Year to formally forgive women who have had abortions, in the Argentine pontiff's latest move towards a more open and inclusive church.

In Church teaching, abortion is such a grave sin that those who procure or perform it incur an automatic excommunication. Usually only designated clergy and missionaries can formally forgive abortions.

But from Dec.8 to Nov. 26, during an extraordinary Holy Year or "Jubilee" on the theme of mercy announced by Pope Francis in March, all priests will be able to do so, he said in a letter published on Tuesday by the Vatican.

Read your Bible. Try the KJV.

Try John 20:23. Tagline.

Every sin, including in fact any kind of murder whether you do it with a bomb, abortion or a baseball bat, can be absolved by sacramental Confession, if it is accompanied by true contrition and a sincere turning away from this sin.

The sin is forgiven by Jesus Christ, not by the priest.

Or do you think any sin can be forgiven by Christ, except murder?

Thank you. This ups my morale in regards to the Church. I will be watching to see if words are matched by action in this regard. I appreciate your response. God bless.

Have you ever asked for God's forgiveness? (I'm not asking for TMA).

Do you consider God's forgiveness to be a free pass?

Oh, does the Episcopal Church consider abortion to be a moral sin?

We neither saved by faith or by works; we are saved by God’s Grace.

What about those five virgins who ran out of oil for their lamps?

Rejecting God's word about the remission of sin: now, that's spitting in God's face.

Check the tagline from the KJV, John 20:23.

Bull---- winkle. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Don't you know anything about temporal punishments due to sin? Do you even know what a temporal punishment is? Why don't you at least try to learn something about it, before you venture an opinion?

Typical double talk catholic answer. If you believe you must add anything to what Christ did, if you must go through a 'purgatory' before receiving eternal life, you are wrong since we can add nothing. You are being cathologogic deceitful, trying to hide the reality that your religion teaches you must pay for what Christ has already canceled. That is possibly the most damning thing to a catholic because they don't realize they're being deceitful to themselves and to their listener/reader.

Mormons teach that by the Grace of God, they can strive to become worthy. Except for what Jesus did, they could not strive to become gods. Catholics are caught in the same trap but are less likely to see it when pointed out to them since they are so dependent upon the deception to hold their pride up for weighing.

It is not surprising to read a catholic insisting that the catholic priest speaks for Christ, since that religion teaches adherents that their priests bring Jesus down from Heaven, body, blood, soul and DIVINITY in a wafer their priests hold up for eating, to get the god-life in the eaters. But apparently the pope of that religion has to dole out this special abortion dispensation through his priesthood. Disgusting religion, that.

Some catholics are too high and mighty haughty to ever be ashamed of their selves. Their pride in self won’t allow it! ... But if their priest tells them to say ...

I just quoted Scripture. And it IS revealing. I'll not be abashed about that.

Who do you think Jesus was talking to or referring to, when He said "you" (or in the KJV translation below, "ye") have the power to "remit" or "retain" sins?

Sins are found among Catholics, as well as in every Christian congregation. I don't think admitting that, and being grateful for the forgiveness of sin, amounts to "pride."

I say this not for you, necessarily, but for the lurkers.

You sure you have the right person. I thought I was just making the point that I feared the Pope was somehow making a very serious sin such as abortion less serious. Like in the difference between mortal and venial sin.

And I was only questioning the Pope because it seemed the Church was accepting of the United Nation’s document of Sustainable Development which supports abortion. Now someone send me some more recent information saying saying this was not so. But I had good reason to think the way I did because of this:

This is more recent.

THANK YOU for that!
