Ted Cruz: "Barack Obama Has Become The President That Nixon Wished He Could Be"
Real Clear Politics ^ | 9/1/15 | H.Hewitt Transcript

HUGH HEWITT:...The McKinley Memorial is located about five miles from where I grew up. And I am offended that the President ... thinks he has the authority to rename mountains. I really am. Where does this guy get off? TED CRUZ: It is the latest manifestation of the megalomaniacal, imperial presidency that we have seen for six and a half years. This administration has been the most lawless administration we have ever seen. And this president routinely disregards the law, disregards the Constitution, disregards the Congress.

If he wants to change the name of a mountain, the way to do so is to go to Congress. Indeed, there is legislation pending to do what he just decreed would happen. But he can’t be bothered with Constitutional niceties like actually passing legislation. Instead, he simply decrees.

And I’m reminded a few years back, Hugh, when he was asked repeatedly by amnesty advocates to just unilaterally declare executive amnesty. And he responded over and over and over again that he had no authority to do so, that Congress makes the immigration laws, and as president, Constitutionally, he couldn’t change them.

Indeed, one of the things Barack Obama said is, “I am not an emperor.” That was his explanation for why he couldn’t unilaterally issue amnesty.

And then a few months later, the election was approaching, and I guess he became an emperor, because the order that he had just said he would have had to be an emperor to issue, I mean, I’m reminded, you and I both know Constitutional law professor, Jonathan Turley...

Professor Turley has described how President Obama has become the embodiment of the imperial president. Barack Obama has become the president Richard Nixon always wished he could be.

Yesterday, NY Times' Nate Silver, who hitherto gave Ted Cruz zero chance - finally conceded to what some of us have always understood:

"The question is what happens to Trump’s numbers when Carson surges. (Or if Carson doesn’t, when another candidate like Ted Cruz inevitably does some weeks or months from now.)"

Cruz is building a foundation- marshaling his forces-- when he surges, he won't give back the ground.

Cruz is the guy who sits dead center between Trump and Carson in demeanor.

Yes, I have said for a while Obama has the incompetence of Carter coupled with the corruption of Nixon.

Compared to Obama’s tyrannical criminal and unconstitutional reign Dick Nixon’s transgressions are about as serious as an errant schoolboy caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

“Yes, I have said for a while Obama has the incompetence of Carter coupled with the corruption of Nixon.”

In one sentence you mentioned three presidents and insulted one who is deceased and one who is out of office since Jan. thirty four years ago. The only one you did not insult is the one you intended to insult, you gave him far more credit than he deserves8>)

In actuality, I think Valerie and BO are PURPOSELY hurting this nation.....Jimmy Carter, while bad, at least CARED about America.

For me, this was a big reason for Mitt being a hands down better choice in the last election. Whatever his faults, I believe his character and heart held this nation in high esteem. Valerie and BO, in my opinion, hate it with a passion.

.

You’re correct about BHO and Valerie ...

Mitt Romney ?

If he hadn’t told the Tea Party to STFU, he might have won ...

GOPe-RINO arrogance is an astounding thing ...

Historians look at wonderment at how Hitler lost WWII for Germany with his terrible military decisions ...

Hitler, did not, unlike Mitt Romney ... didn’t HATE his infantry ...

We’ll have to agree to disagree. I think there was a world of difference in how Mitt viewed America and how Obama viewed America.

Mitt did not take an inheritance from his father, and worked his butt off to be a successful businessman. His theology and poor political stances notwithstanding, he showed himself to be a man willing to work for a living.

He didn’t have his hand out, didn’t hide his past, and was willing to learn from his mistakes.

Obama lived off of others, hid his past, and never admitted wrong-doing. Still won’t.

Different times. People who were born in the 1920s and lived through the 1940s and 1950s couldn't think in the same way about the country as some people born later could. Carter had immunity with many people because of the way he expressed himself. But the policies are similar.

Agreed on Cruz. Fine analysis.

Obama now signs his name with “R.I.” at the end.

I think this is an insult to Nixon. He had his faults but he was a much better person than Obama, and didn’t hate America the way Obama does.
