Walker, considering Canada border fence Sunday, now against it(NQRFPT Player)

Scott Walker on Sunday said he was considering a fence on the border with Canada:

"Some people have asked us about that in New Hampshire. They raised some very legitimate concerns, including some law enforcement folks that brought that up to me at one of our town hall meetings about a week and a half ago. So that is a legitimate issue for us to look at," Walker said about building a wall along the Canada-U.S. border.

Note the key phrase: "That is a legitimate issue for us to look at." Now Walker said he was misunderstood, and he wasn't considering it at all.

A spokeswoman for Walker's campaign said that he wasn't calling for a wall specifically, he was just expressing concern over the issue.

"Despite the attempts of some to put words in his mouth, Gov. Walker wasn't advocating for a wall along our northern border. Chuck asked about it and Gov. Walker said based on what he's hearing from people there are security concerns that need to be addressed," AshLee Strong said to POLITICO.

Every candidate makes a slip of the tongue from time to time, especially given the stress of running for president. But Scott Walker does it all the time. He's had more back-and-forths on immigration than all the other candidates combined, even more than Donald Trump, who at least can stay consistent for a whole week. On birthright citizenship alone Walker had three positions – no, maybe, and yes – all in less than a week.

He may be great for Wisconsin, but not for America.

Wishy Washy Walker. He’s turned out to be a major flip flopper.

True. However, I don’t think he was saying he wanted a wall or fence on the norther border - only that it was a legitimate concern for some in NH. Ben Carson,in a speech in Phoenix, AZ said he wanted a wall on the northern border as well as the west and east coastlines. You can check it out on you tube. I don’t have the line handy.

I agree. Headlines about this were all over the place. I have never been pro Walker but I think he was played on this somewhat.

Yes he was. I hate the media and their twisting of people’s words. That’s why I’m glad that Trump goes after the bunch of hyenas.

Who is more decisive—Scott Walker or Yeb Boosh?

I had high hopes for this guy but he has crashed and burned already.

The Canada fence thing was a shot at Trump. Trying to use the Limbaugh tactic of illustrating absurdity by being absurd. It backfired. Bigtime.

Classic example of having incredible success, and then not knowing what to do with it.

Build the southern border fence first before contemplating any others, or they will be pointless.

(The western border fence should be built on CA's east border IMHO.)

By leaving out the question he was asked, the article displays blatant dishonesty.

(And I am not a Walker supporter)

Big Media are pathological liars. I continue to be disgusted by people on this forum, of all places, who fall for it.

Yeah. It was how he said it. My response would've been: "First let's build the fence along our southern border and make EVerify the law of the land. Then US will have to make sure other borders are secure, and what measures are needed to make it so. Now let's focus on the priority, which is to control illegal entry into the US over our southern border".

After only doing one year of college Debate Club in the 1960s, I know how to answer with a positive "divert" to my issue. The puppetmasters are backing people who just aren't ready for prime time. They now own Walker because he didn't stay out of their claws until he had mature, well thought out opinions based on experiences and years of dealing with them.

Is Rush and Levin still going to pretend this waffler is POTUS worthy like the other establishment losers...Rubio..Jeb?

It’s clear only Cruz, Trump, or Carson...maybe if Palin jumped in...have the mindset to take on Washington DC crooks.

And that is why Ted Cruz stands above the rest.

Boy, this is a guy who knows how to change his mind. He had three different positions on the 14th Amendment in just seven days and now he’s doing the same on the Canadian fence. There’s something missing there.

“On Sunday, Wisconsin Governor, Scott Walker, appeared on “Meet the Press”, answering a variety of questions from Chuck Todd, including the topic of border security. On Monday, the Associated Press apparently decided to take the governor’s response and distort it into something he never actually said.

In an article titled, “Walker’s talk about Canadian border wall draws derision”, Scott Bauer began by stating:

“Scott Walker’s suggestion that building a wall between Canada and the U.S. might be a ‘legitimate’ idea prompted swift derision from fellow Republicans on Monday and an attempt by his campaign to clarify what he meant.”

The problem with Scott Bauer’s claim is that Governor Walker never “suggested building a wall between Canada and the U. S.”

Walker was responding to a series of questions that Chuck Todd asked in quick succession, giving Walker no time to address each of those questions individually.

Chuck Todd: “Why are we always talking about the southern border and building a fence there? We don’t talk about a northern border.”

As Todd introduced the notion of a “northern border”, Walker makes an unsuccessful attempt to answer as Todd continued to interrupt.

Chuck Todd: “If this is about securing the border from potentially terrorists coming across the border.... You want to build a wall north of the border?”

At this point, just as Todd had inserted the question “You want to build a wall north of the border?” Walker finally got a chance to answer. Clearly, Walker was addressing the issue of border security in the northern border between Canada and the U. S. He was not - as clearly heard and seen in the video - affirming that he wanted to “build a wall north of the border”.

Scott Walker: “The borders.... people have asked us about that in New Hampshire. They raise some very good... legitimate concerns, including some law enforcement folks that brought that up to me in one of the town hall meetings about a week and a half ago. So, that is a legitimate issue for us to look at.”

What Walker is obviously referring to is border security in general and not a northern border between Canada and the U. S. specifically. Yet, this is how the Associate Press and other media outlets decided to report it.

In fact, later in that same interview, Walker reminds Todd and television viewers, “It wasn’t just about building a wall and securing our borders. It was also about making sure out intelligence community has the ability for counter-terrorism....”

Nevertheless, Gov. Walker will now have to shake off the inaccurate notion that he “suggested” - as Scott Bauer reported - building a northern wall between the two countries. Did Walker really propose building a wall?

The full 30 minute interview [if you're really not interested in repeating Democrat Party - GOP-e talking points working overtime to attack Walker]

This is the same tactic used when Walker was at the Iowa fair and asked about "anchor babies."

Headline "news" is used to assail a candidate.

It appears that the “media” interprets Walker’s answer to a question, then writes their own misleading headline.

Then they say he's clarified it (the media’s "mistake").

Then the story becomes that Walker changed his mind.

Interesting how that works.
