How do I know? Because that’s the Athabascan name for it.
I could care less what the Russians called it. They likely never saw it. Most of their interest was in the sea otter fur trade. Their capitol was in Sitka, hundreds of miles away.
How do you know that was their name for it? Did someone record that info back in the 1800?
