A massive explosion has ripped through a region in China.

Bright flames and black smoke were seen from what is thought to be a chemical factory this evening.

The explosion was seen and heard in the industrial zone of Lijin, Dongying City of Shandong, just before 11.30pm local time.

It is not yet known if there are any injuries or fatalities.

The explosion was reported by the People's Daily newspaper - the Communist Party-owned publication.

No further details have yet been released.

The blast comes just a fortnight after another huge explosion in the country killed dozens and injured hundreds.

It reminds me of reading about all the exploding SUVs in Iceland during their economic crash. Icelanders couldn’t make payments on their loans & burned them for the insurance $$

Now the death toll is up to 13, and the figures on Tianjin are now 161 dead and 12 still missing, and there is a brand new one that I will find and also post.

This article on the latest at Lishui City has many comments with all sorts of conjectures as to why so many—insurance arson, including for insured commodities which may have lost value, and other ideas. The fact that the 3 events I am commenting on all occurred between 11 pm and midnight is also interesting. Perhaps someone would like to post a new thread on this explosion although it does not seem as severe as the others, so far. And another post below:
