I think it tells you everything you need to know when you see that the three people in the lead are all non-politicians.

People think that by avoiding politicians, they’ll get a fresh start on government, and Trump is the most popular of them at the moment mainly because he’s a non-politician who is also a celebrity and a showman. When people get tired of the bombast, Carson and Fiorina have a chance of moving up even more.

However, I’m not sure a non-politician, especially one who doesn’t seem to have any strong history of political opinions, is going to be able to do much. People mention Reagan, but he had a long history of conservative positions and political involvement and had twice been governor of the state that has a nation-level economy.

That said, I can certainly see why people want nothing to do with politicians!

I think your skepticism is justified. If DT should be elected as POTUS, he very well could turn out to be a “man without a party” — a loner who might be undercut at every turn by both parties in the Congress and by the civil service. It’s hard to see how a loner like that could even begin to control the immensely complicated monster we call the “federal government.”

But on the other hand, maybe Don’s frequently outrageous talk and well-honed Barnumesque bluster are mainly just hot air, done for “show” so as to lure naive voters into his lair. If that’s the case, he might eventually govern as a calm pragmatist with no real goals other than to keep his name in the headlines. Maybe he’d just go along with whichever party controlled the Congress.

In any event, now is just too early to make a plausible guess. And based on my years of experience, I gotta say that prediction is normally a very difficult task — especially when it involves the future!
