Yep Pat was for America first and that made him anti-Semitic to those who were for Israel first.

I really should not browse FR this early in the morning. I swear I thought the title read “Pat Buchanan’s Hair”

Establishment is pitiful in how little they understand

Makes it clear how clueless they were all along

“Pat was too tied up in cultural issues, which limited his appeal, whereas Trump is making a broader-based economic case, which broadens his appeal,” says Craig Shirley, "

Their favorite canard and proof of ignoramoose

The only time the media loved Buchanan was when he was hammering Jorge Sr. which softened him up for Clinton.

The media is having a hard time polarizing Trump which is why they want to morph him into Pat Buchanan. The key difference with Trump is that he doesn’t need anyone’s money so he’s not beholden to lobbyists.

That was also true of Romney but Romney wasn’t as blunt about it and kept using contributor money instead of his own. Trump might be playing us but he may also be serious about spending his own money to run for the job so he won’t need bend over when special interests come to call.

All of which proved to be disasters. Ventura and Schwarzenegger governed as liberals.

Precisely my point.

I know right now the candidates with zero political track record are flying highest in the polls right.

The ideal candidate IMHO has experience in BOTH holding public office and the private sector (or military background).

I don’t think the presidency should be an entry level position. With a governor, or a senator, or a congressman, we can tell from their past actions, policies, and voting records how they will govern.

The establishment strains... And produces a gnat. Trump’s life story is compelling, three-dimensional, and purely American. I’m struggling right now to think of a better person to lead America out of this nightmarish morass Dear Leader has created. A president is more than policy, he is a cheerleader for the world’s varsity team. I would suggest that anyone still doubting that Trump can do the job take a quick look at a few of the biographies available on YT.

"Buchanan became politically radioactive in some circles in the 1990s, largely because of the perceived anti-Semitism of his occasional qualified praise for Hitler, his flirtations with Holocaust denial, and his ceaseless criticism of Israel and its supporters."

As I recall he was banned here. Israel is much better off for it, right?

Because these veterans of the public square violated the first law of politics: They let Trump set the agenda.

None of them had an agenda other than they were not the other guy. I told someone last week it is not so much that people have picked Trump as they have un-picked all the others.

How about both.

Many of us picked Trump as soon he indicated he was going to run, before he shredded the faux opponents.

“Pat was the most anti-Israel Republican I can think of.”

That explains why Pat defended Israel bombing Iraq’s Osirak reactor when the Reagan administration condemned it.

What? Oh. Nevermind.

"Pat does not like Jews."

Of course we never heard that accusation from Michael Kinsley or Paul Gottfried or others who knew Buchanan or worked with him. But then what would they know?

The hit on Buchanan began over at Commentary Magazine in an article by Joshua Muravchik, the former chairman of the Young People's Socialist League. And it had all the honesty that one would expect from a Leftist out of the YPSL.

Of course this was at a time when the same critics were smearing President Reagan as being soft on Nazis because he placed a wreath at the Bitburg Cemetery. I guess that part of it doesn't sell real well because the Reagan smear rarely gets mentioned anymore.
