If you are referring to his donations to Dems, consider this.

He does business in both NY & CA among other places and both States are heavily Dem. in order for a builer/developer such as Trump to do business he must go through an arduous permit process. If he never gave a dime to Deems what do you think his chances of getting properly permitted would be and how long would it take?

Now come on billy - give me more credit - and slow down and understand what you're justifying. Yes I realize that. Duh. Point A: that doesn't change the fact: THAT IS CRONY CAPITALISM not free market. And point B: this is the problem with choosing a leader from a blue state....they ALL have developed liberal reflexes to survive in those blue states. We're NEVER gonna turn America red with a blue state Republican. NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

Which is my point to begin with. Just like Mitt proved you cannot be governor of Massachusetts and a Republican President in the same lifetime....you can't be a NY crony and a Republican President in the same lifetime.

In addition to your excellent response, I would add that it is probably simplistic to use the term ‘crony’ to describe any businessman who has donated to a politician in expectation of some personal benefit. I’m sure there are various shades of motivation.

Some probably donate just to insure they remain in the good graces of the politicians who hold power, seeking nothing more than to protect their businesses interests from arbitrary government regulation, etc., just like paying protection money to the mob. Others more actively seek an improvement in their business fortunes by partnering with lawmakers to create unfair conditions that benefit themselves at the expense of their competitors and the taxpayers.
