President Barack Obama on Monday will officially restore Denali as the name of North America's tallest mountain, ending a 40-year battle over what to call the peak that has been known as Mount McKinley.

The symbolic gesture comes at the beginning of a three-day trip to Alaska where Obama hopes to build support for his efforts to address climate change during his remaining 16 months in office.

I wouldn’t allow him to do it until after he climbed it first. Without oxygen. No gloves. Tennis shoes only. Basketball shorts and tee shirt. No ropes.

And no Reggie Love, either!

So the Amerindian special interest groups were able to get to the Alaskan politicians before they got to the national politicians. Still not a good reason to change the name.

Only two presidents were assassinated in the 20th century, McKinley and Kennedy. Is this a sign that we are now trying to forget them and disrespect them for no good reason?

He can call Denali/McKinley “New Russia” if he wants to-it isn’t going to change what the people there call it, and I doubt he will impress anyone...

Somehow, I don’t picture Alaskans being horrified at the idea of warmer weather, no matter how it came to be-more Winter tourism to bring money, longer growing season to reduce the price of fresh produce, easier travel to and from work in Winter, etc...

Let him stay on the mountain permanently and we will rename it Mt.Obama-Denali in his dishonor. Such a deal.
Ok a golf course in the valley too. Just go away.

"What an absolutely beautiful day it is, and it is my honor to speak to all Alaskans, to our Alaskan family this last time as your governor. And it is always great to be in Fairbanks. The rugged rugged hardy people that live up here and some of the most patriotic people whom you will ever know live here, and one thing that you are known for is your steadfast support of our military community up here and I thank you for that and thank you United States military for protecting the greatest nation on Earth. Together we stand.

And getting up here I say it is the best road trip in America soaring through nature's finest show. Denali, the great one, soaring under the midnight sun."

“This really does not seem like an issue that warrants a high level of anger. “

In this case it’s much ado about nothing.

This jackass flies to Las Vegas on Air Force One to rant about non-existent “climate change.”

Then he takes another trip to New Orleans for a 10-year anniversary of the Katrina shindig.

Now he’s flying to Alaska for three days?

What’s his carbon footprint for these three trips?

And isn’t there a spare Air Force One that follows him everyone he goes?

Unbelievable.

Except that it’s one more step in the on-going effort to change our history, change our language, change our culture, wipe out any and all symbols of the heritage we celebrate as a country. That’s worth a high level of anger.

if he were to fly to Alaska, he could go to the Exit Glacier national Park where the government has been tracking warming since 1896

No one who lives in Alaska calls it Mt. McKinley. It has been Denali to them.
