Neither Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings nor officials from General Electric would confirm on Friday reports that General Electric Co. had decided against relocating its global headquarters to the city because of Texas politicians’ opposition to the Export-Import Bank.

Republicans Rep. Jeb Hensarling and Sen. Ted Cruz have each been outspoken in their opposition to the Ex-Im Bank, a federal agency that offers loans, loan guarantees and credit insurance to help U.S. firms sell their products overseas.

Hensarling’s opposition to the bank has grown from a small movement two years ago to a full-scale rebellion, dismaying the bank’s supporters among major business lobbying groups. The bank’s charter expired June 30, and it had to suspend consideration of new deals...

I’m sure GE would find the views of the politicians in Mexico City more to their liking.

Governor Cuomo was making a big pitch for them to move across the border to Westchester county. This would be quite convenient, because the executives and staff would not have to physically move.

But it is a sad day when New York is the low-cost alternative in the tristate area.

I will buy nothing from GE because I do not agree with their views on anything.

There has been talk about them coming here to ATL.

I would be pleasantly surprised if our Senators have spoken out against the Ex-Im bank.

Typical idiots running corporations today: No concern for profit, only petty personal politics.

I believe the need for a global headquarters is more about the CEO’s ego than an actual need of the company. With digital communications there’s hardly even a need for many employees to leave their homes. Think of how much money would be saved if companies did away with the status building downtown in some nice, but hard to commute to and expensive to live in city.

That aside, what they’re telling me is that their socialism instincts are not where I want to invest my money.

Texas can get along just fine without this corrupt corporation which refuses ( for all its resources and advantages) to compete in the marketplace without American taxpayer guarantees

Good!

Tell them that Detroit, Baltimore and Chicago are the perfect places for their kind of tax evading corporate headquarters.

GE is also the most widely owned stock by Congress.

Lived in CT for a number of years, a few miles north of GE corporate headquarters in Fairfield, CT. Business had me driving the Merritt Parkway to Westchester County in NY and over the Tappen Zee Bridge to northern NJ frequently. Doubt if GE executives living in CT, close to headquarters, would be enthusiastic about commuting to Westchester County. The Merritt Parkway & I-95 are a bitch to drive, especially during rush hour.

Actually, Dallas and the metro area is not really that expensive, especially with it being the fourth-largest MSA in the country and about to overtake Chicago as the third-largest.
