I lived in Ohio a long time. I was always a bit confused as to why the confederate flag was so popular in ohio. I think similar things are true in Indiana. It was more popular there than in Texas.

After WWII the migration to the industrial regions of Ohio, Michigan, etc., from the south was huge. In my family, also in Ohio, we returned at least once a year to N. Carolina to visit extended family.
