I heard today that Ben Carson wants to raise the retirement age. That’s fine if you work a government desk job. Try telling a waitress or a roofer that they have to work until 70 before they can start to get some of their money back.

70 is just about the same as 65 was back in 1935. As written, the act provided only for widows, orphans, cripples, and the truly destitute. Somewhere along the way, the middle class started thinking of it as a retirement fund. Once the Middle Class stopped reproducing at a replacement level, the immigrants started to come into the country to fill more and more jobs.

I fully expect that if I ever retire, there will be no money to pay me any SS benetits. Everyone would be best serving theirseoves if they accepted that reality that the government ripped them off and “their” money is gone.

Actually, we just came back from socialist Copenhagen. Our 40+ year old driver told us that the retirement age for a gov’t pension in this socialist heaven is now 70 for all workers.

And just how do you expect to make the system survive, paying people almost as many years in benefits as years worked?

A roofer or waitress can get another job, if they don’t want to do their old work anymore.
