GREER, S.C. Presidential candidate Ted Cruz made another stop in the Upstate Friday night.
The Republican U.S. senator from Texas spoke at a town hall meeting in Greer.
"When I tell you I am going to do something, I am going to do exactly what I said I would do," said Cruz.
Cruz said it's his core values and common sense solutions that will get him in the White House in 2016.
He's also giving credit to another candidate for helping his campaign.
"Donald Trump talking about this (immigration) issue makes the media talk about this issue and that has resulted in incredible support for our campaign," said Cruz.
Cruz and Trump are also planning an appearance together at Capitol Hill to rally against the proposed nuclear deal with Iran.
WYFF News 4's Liz Lohuis asked Cruz if he would ever consider Trump as a running mate.
"My focus is on winning the Republican nomination and then winning the general election," Cruz said. "I like Donald Trump. He is a friend of mine and I am grateful he is in the race."
Cruz also said there is a reason he's been in South Carolina so much lately.
"South Carolina and Texas share a lot of common values," he said.
"We're both southern states.
We are both conservative states.
The men and women here have common sense conservative values.
We believe in God.
We love our guns.
We have military veterans.
We believe in God and family and staying together.
"And I have been so encouraged by the team who has come together on the ground and the support we are receiving in South Carolina.
I'm glad to be back."
Cruz will speak Saturday at the God Pro-Family rally in Columbia.
I don’t think it was publicized much, otherwise there would have been more in attendance. Trump’s appearance here was highly publicized and it was a closed event.
Looks like a packed house to me.
Ted Cruz has done exceptionally well at keeping the race civil between himself and others republicans in the race.
Cruz gets it - hear that Trump bashers?
I’m for Sen Cruz all the way.
I’ve met him and had a nice conversation with him, and IMO, he’s the real deal.
He is one of very few politicians to whom I have contributed money.
There looks to be a decent turnout.
I believe that is not a very large venue in Greer....that is the problem with it looking like attendance was small. Trump came the the TD Convention Center on the other side of the Greenville. Sanders came to the Bon Secour Arena, the other convention center in downtown Greenville. Seems like every politician it trying for a different venue so it does not appear as if they are following each other.
Cruz is a politician. Trump is an entertainer. That’s why the difference in venues. Ted Cruz would not be able to fill 20-30K in a stadium....yet. That’s not his style nor where he’s seeking an audience. Trump would never hold an event in a high school gym or a community center. That’s not his style or type of audience he’s seeking. Two different styles and methods, one goal. IMO.
I contend that Trump has boosted both Cruz and Carson—we’re even seeing a more assertive Carson. Trump has been a boon to conservatives. And his high energy and humor has made it clear what a sickly eunuch Jeb Bush is.
Ted Cruz has probably spoken to more people overall. Lots more smaller venues usually 2 or more per day for the past month with only a couple of days off.
Its just a different campaign style.
I see the two as a team. I will vote for either one happily. Personally, I want President Trump and Senate Majority leader Cruz.
caww, I pinged you because you show others how to promote your candidate without trying to bring down Trump. I appreciate your reasoned debate. You are a credit to freerepublic.
Tickets WERE required for this event. I don’t know what the parameters were but it was NOT an open event.
....”There will be time that Ted Cruz will debate issues with Donald Trump. Of course, Ted Cruz is not going to attack anyone ad hominem. He is a classy guy.”......
Trump mentioned that off the cuff as well recently....but I do think whatever that plays as it will be with an understanding pre-planned between them.....and I think that Carson is part of their inner group as well.
Thank you for the ping....I think many on FR are of that mind also. We can see that both Cruz and Trump are 'a force' to be reckoned with...........Cruz is on the ground securing the base while Trump holds the media in the palm of his hand.... It's working exactly as intended....truly brilliant! I would also say that Carson has his role among them as we see him mounting up along the way. The public is "getting it".....slowly but surely!
We need Trump’s coat tails. They are as wide as the wake behind his yacht. He will be selective about who rides those coat tails. This is great fun to watch.
