A person of interest is in custody after the deadly ambush of a Harris County sheriff's deputy, fatally gunned down without warning Friday night while filling up his patrol car at a northwest Harris County gas station.
We've learned the person of interest is inside the Harris County Sheriff's Office in east Houston and continues to be questioned in the the case.
No one has been charged and the search continues for the suspect.
Deputy Darren Goforth, 47, has just left an accident scene when he stopped by a gas station on Telge and West Road. As he was pumping gas, a man approached him from behind, said nothing and fired multiple shots. Once the deputy fell to the ground, the suspect fired more shots. Deputy Goforth was pronounced dead on the scene.
An intense manhunt covered Harris County for hours overnight. At about 2:30am, authorities converged on a home on Crystal Lake in Copperfield, led there by a tip. The focus of the investigation is on the red pickup truck in the home's driveway. The person of interest was taken into custody at what's said to be his mother's house. His identity has not been released.
The man's mother -- who didn't want to show her face or give her name -- tells Eyewitness News her son is innocent. She said, "My son is innocent. I was in the house with him, so when that happened, my son was home."

I’m guessing he will be given the death penalty and I will live long enough to see it. Law enforcement or not, it really pisses society off to see any innocent person killed in such a cowardly manner.

That's a refreshing twist instead of the usual "He's a good boy, gettin' his life together, gon be a big rap star, gettin his GED, Din do nuffin." Of course, that could be next when his alibi of being at Mom's house crumbles.
But, innocent until proven guilty. Maybe he is innocent and Mom's telling the truth.
This was a straight up execution.

I’m carrying everywhere I go. Look at it this way. The radicals are exposing themselves for eradication. Police departments will probably require all patrol officers to wear body worn cams soon to prove the perps tried to pull their guns out of its holster to shoot them with it and expose how belligerent the Amish really are on traffic stops.
I was appalled this morning when the MSM refused to identify the race of the cold blooded murderer. There is a race war going on and one side has yet to recognize it. Charleston was an aberration. A minority is riding roughshod over the majority.
Mother’s house looks like it’s in a not bad neighbourhood. I was a little surprised by that, as she sounds like a fool. Son didn’t suspect there’d be surveillance cameras? Also a fool.

In the speech given by the sheriffs department and the article I read never mentioned the race of the suspect. From the picture I see the perp is Amish.
In this case, the mom called police and turned the son in.
