The local Orlando channel WFTV just said the TRENDS are toward the WEST even though presently, the line is going directly up the center of the state at this time. Rick Scott is most concerned about the Tampa area flooding.

The issue isn’t the wind, since the storm will be down to tropical storm speeds (or less) by the time it makes landfall in Florida. The big issue is the very heavy rain, which would cause a lot of flooding problems, especially right through central Florida. I would not be surprised that all the theme parks in the Orlando area are shut down by the middle of next week.

It has been 10 years since Florida experienced a hurricane.

Hope recent arrivals know what to expect and are prepared.

Prayers up for all in Erika's path.

Everyone in Texas who is about to close on a home better get their insurance now. Once a hurricane is in the Gulf they won’t write any new policies until after the storm is finished doing it’s damage.

Just heard it on Bay News 9 in Tampa. Still too early to tell what path in FL this thing will take.

I would think the mountains of Hispaniola would wreak havoc on the storm.

Went to sleep last nigh with Erika supposed to be 85 mph Cat one off Jacksonville on Tuesday night.
Woke up this morning to it going up penninsula and a 45 mph tropical storm. I am pleased
Now, as for the State of Emergency- that was declared yesterday when the forcast was for a hurricane hugging the east coast an effecting millions and it allows the governor to activate national guard and agreements with power companies and the likes up north to come down to fix lines...I would much sooner have an activist GOP governor like Scott that Blanco in Lousiana and Nagin in New Orleans who seemed to be lost what to do as Katrina approached 10 years ago. the head of the National Hurricane Center called the governors office TWICE TO tell her...evacuate!

A tropical storm? However, with heavy rains, flooding is a factor since the oceans have risen, what? 0.00001% if that. Still low-lying areas are prone to flooding from torrential rain fall. I'd rather the Governor take early actions than waiting around like Blanco and Mayor Nagin did with Katrina.

The libs and crybabies still blame Bush. The facts show that Bush formally (in writing) asked Governor Blanco to formally request fedgov FEMA assistance 2 days in advance, which is law. She didn't; Nagin sat on his ass; and the suburbs were devastated beyond repair. Can't wait to see the cable special of Katrina 20 year anniversary. I wonder which way it will slant?

Keep in mind that the Mississippi coast got hit just as hard, but Governor Barbour? did a lot of good things to prepare and then rebuild.

I thought a “state of emergency” was declared after the “hurricane” hits shore. This isn’t even a hurricane.

It’s like California declaring a “state of emergency” in anticipation of the “big one” which could occur sometime this century.

Tropical Storm Erika Weakens, Heads Toward Hispaniola
"Wind shear has weakened Tropical Storm Erika as it approaches Hispaniola. It if remains intact after crossing mountainous Hispaniola, it may strengthen while crossing the southern Bahamas. The official tracking map has Erika making landfall over south Florida early next week."
