The support for Trump is weird. I can see the LIV Fox news Republicans liking his style, but I thought Freepers were more sophisticated.

The “appeals to sophistication” are things leftists do. I’ll repeat what I wrote on another thread:

“...You aren’t winning support for X candidate by running against Trump. Hate him all you want, buy while everyone else was BS-ing the summer away, he actually stated positions (believe him or not) on important issues, that as we can see, most of the others are not willing to take.”

Basically the “sophisticated” crowd on the right left the door open for him by being lazy and calculated. Trump steamrolled in and did more damage to the GOPe than anyone has done EVER. Whatever his positions were X number of years ago, he seems to have studied and learned, which isn’t a crime and has been wildly to our benefit.

I take the “trust, but verify” route with him. That’s all you can do. He is entitled to a fair go, and if he is honest(which right now I cant find anything saying he isnt), then we win.

What is unsophisticated about being fed-up and tired of being let down, and in many cases, openly lied-to by Republicans in the past 10 years? We supported conservatives each and every time, and we were handed McCain and Romney, who we reluctantly voted for, and who lost. We've rised-up and helped to vote the Republicans into the House and Senate. And what did we get? More of McConnell and Bohner, crying and wringing their hands instead of acting like men and fighting for the causes of their voters.

In short, the Republican Party has completely failed us. What's the solution? Someone who can go in and clean house. If Trump wins and does nothing else other than build the border wall, expand the military and hold the line on the Middle East, while pushing the pussified Republican-controlled Congress into action, it would be a success in my view.

“There is NOTHING more conservative than stopping a permanent democrat/marxist voting majority and doing whats best for the people and the country. By virtue of Mr.Trump’s position on illegal immigration he “Trumps” all others conservatism.” [Credit to FReeper Lopeover for this quote].

Be on guard against being too "sophisticated" - and I say that as someone with 3 graduate degrees from pretty good institutions, someone who "should" be thinking along the lines of, say, George Will. I would love an ideologically pure nominee...but I'm much more interested in someone who can beat the America-hating Dems, dramatically slow the flow of illegals (and even reverse it over time) and, in general, save this nation while doing 75% of what I want - vs. the pure conservative who can't get elected.

"The Perfect is the Enemy of the Good." General George S. Patton, Jr.

Listen, I want Cruz to be the next President - but he's at about 7%, roughly tied with at least 3 others and well behind Trump and (believe it or not) Carson. I question whether he can even get the nomination, let alone win - and with this being an election that is anything BUT typical, maybe we need a candidate who EXEMPLIFIES "anything but typical." I'm still in Cruz' corner, but I was also in Fred Thompson's corner in 2008 - and that never came to much. With some luck, maybe Cruz will be Trump's Veep, or be the AG and clean up the criminals in DC before being nominated for the Supreme Court (wouldn't THAT make the lieberals' heads explode!) or running for Prez in 2024.
