Can Trump Round Up 20 Million Illegals?
American Thinker ^ | 08/27/2015 | Monte Kuligowski

Donald Trump recently appeared on Bill O’Reilly’s show and was presented with an emotive scenario intended to bring Trump into the quandary of the establishment.

In context of rounding up illegals for deportation, Mr. Trump was asked about the families. What about the undocumented people living in our country, working hard and raising children? Is Trump going to bust into every home Janet Reno-style and drag families, kids and all, to the southern border?

This scenario creates quite the image and will be used repeatedly by the press to show just how unworkable, unfair, and heartless Trump’s idea really is.

Trump’s response to the scenario was: if we are to have a country, we have to enforce our laws, and the “good” people will be fast-tracked back into our country with legal status.

The first half of Trump’s response is great – we have to enforce our laws. But for Trump and the GOP candidates who are taking a “hardline” stance on those who have broken our laws and disregarded our sovereignty, I would like to take the emotion out of this scenario and present a laconic response for the candidates.

First, under O’Reilly’s lachrymose scenario, the issue of anchor baby citizenship comes to the fore.

It’s axiomatic that the insane policy of granting U.S. citizenship to the offspring of illegal alien parents must be ended (and the 14th Amendment doesn’t need to be amended to stop it – but that’s another article).

So the unasked and unanswered question is: if the policy of indiscriminate birthright citizenship is ended, should children already afforded citizenship be allowed to keep their status? In other words, should they be grandfathered in? Should United States law state that going forward, citizenship will not be awarded to the offspring of illegal resident parents?

All he has to do is try - round up 100,000 or so and millions more will run for the border.

No need to “round up” these illegal invaders. Immediately stop all benefits of any sort to them and fine their employers. Most will self-deport. Those who don’t should have a bounty on them. Also, seize their assets and deport them immediately. All of them. They are a pox on this nation.

Depends on how it is done. If the Supreme Court rules that illegal aliens were not granted citizenship under the 14th Amendment then there is no grandfathering. The people are not and have never been citizens. If the change is done legislatively then that's admitting that prior to the law the children of illegals were citizens, and I would assume that they must remain citizens because the Constitution prohibits the passing of ex-post facto laws.

You don’t have to round them up. Just cut off their social welfare benefits and they will go home, reapply for legal entry, and participate fully after going thru the process legally.

Resolution to this problem is not rocket science. The Feds under President Cruz, could offer state and local governments policing powers, incentives and blanket warrant(s) for rounding up illegals and arresting employers who hire illegals. Also, the Feds could hire 5000 Greyhound buses to each take 100 trips to a US/Mexico checkpoint. In a year or 2- poof, 20,000,000 illegals are gone.

Other needed reforms: Build a wall. Like George Washington, raise tariffs to favor American industry. Stop issuing work visas of any sort. If U.S. businesses need help, they should have one choice - hire Americans. Feds need to issue a citizenship stamp, which could be integrated/stamped on a S.S. card. S.S. cards need a photo and anti-counterfeiting imaging.

I am for a secure border, but I think it could be secured with sound policies and empowered agents rather than a giant wall. A wall could just as easily be used to keep us in by a rogue government, as in East Germany. Cut off social services and employment for those here illegally and they will leave on their own. No need to “round them up”.

Cut off their ability to work or get free food and stuff and most will go.

Doesn’t need to. Most would leave by themselves after a few high profile arrests. Higher illegals - go to jail. Also, I am OK with some creative compromise - if an illegal that has no criminal record (not even a misdemeanor) steps forward that would be one less person eligible to come over from his country of origin. So in that case we would not have to export the illegal alien but we will not import an new one. But I rather round them all up and deport them all. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM and their anchor babies. When their anchor babies reach 18 years old then they can come back in without their illegal alien parents.

Trump has been saying this and it's an amnesty for 19 million.

With a little help from his friends.

In my neighborhood, they stand around convenience stores when they're not stealing bicycles.

I'd be glad to help clean that up.

This bears repeating:

The concept of a “roundup” is a leftist red herring, never proposed by any candidate.

1-Build the Fence

2-Enforce E-Verify

3-Deport the criminals

4-Stop providing taxpayer benefits to Illegals.

5-Direct the border patrol to immediately return those crossing illegally.

6-Fine employers using Illegal labor.

After these policies have been in force for a few years, those here illegally will self-deport.

My only point of disagreement is that it won't take that long. Once there is no employment and no benefits for those violating out laws, they will leave in a matter of weeks or months, because they will have no means of support.

I will modify your list a little bit: If some illegals simply cannot afford to travel from where they are to their homes in Mexico or elsewhere, we will provide them with a bus or plane ticket, plus appropriate food and drink along the way. That'll be a cheap investment, especially when they get home and say, "Those Gringos are serious, there's no work or welfare there...but they were at least nice about how they returned us home.

And the states give it driver’s licenses and Medicaid and who knows what else. A president who wants to enforce immigration laws will have difficulty getting something passed federally to override the states on a lot of the illegal coddling. The public’s been good at pressuring congress to stop amnesty, but they need to be led to pressure congress to pass some anti-illegal laws next.

Three American Presidents have deported illegal aliens in the past to provide jobs for Americans: Hoover post the Great Depression. Truman post WWII. Eisenhower post WWII and the Korean War. These Presidents deported many millions of illegals.

We have been flying and busing in illegals under this administration. Seems pretty simply to reverse that process since the system is already in place.

American citizenship ought not to be bestowed on children whose parents committed the crime of coming here without standing in line. That’s why we call them illegals, and their offspring are illegal as well.

Build the wall while deporting. I believe we can do more than one thing at a time! Enforce our immigration laws. Politicians and government agencies who do not enforce our laws must be relieved of their positions.

They’ll start self-deporting quicker than you can say guacamole.

*******************************

I think this will start happening if Trump is merely elected. Once he actually starts enforcing the laws & taking the steps he’s outlined, it will probably turn into a stampede.
