Wilma is a recent memory.

Don't remember Wilma, so she must have been a non-event?

Wilma was a hurricane that hit SE Florida direct-on in October of 2005. Everybody was so busy wailing about Katrina that nobody remembers a Cat-3 storm that devastated S. Florida, leaving many people (including me) without clean water or electricity for three weeks at least. Since FEMA had all it could handle with New Orleans, we were totally ignored by them and the press.

2005 was a year from hell. My community got hit by 4 storms from Katrina to Wilma. However, the hurricanes kept coming and they ran out of names for them, so they started using the Greek alphabet and got to Epsilon.

For those who remember hearing that it was a Cat 1 and not a cat3, that was a ruse. It was downgraded at the last minute to protect somebody (probably the insurance companies...who knows?) but winds were recorded at 136 mph which is a cat3, hands down. And the resulting damage proved it.

And we citizens took care of it all ourselves, with very little help (or even sympathy) from the rest of the country.
