Congressman Jim Bridenstine to Co-Chair Cruz military coalition |
I am humbled and proud to have Bob, Jim, Brian, and Bill leading the Vets for Ted military coalition, Sen. Cruz said. Each of these men has bravely served our country and put their lives on the line to defend the liberties we enjoy today. Their support is an honor. I am committed to ensuring our military forces are provided the resources they need to protect our homeland and promote America’s interests across the globe–and to making sure we fulfill our obligations to our veterans and their families when they return home.
Connor said that, This is a task I do not take lightly. Sen. Cruz has a proven record showing that he understands the criticality of shoring up and rebuilding our defenses, from securing our borders to providing for the needs of our deployed and stateside troops and their families. As president, he will protect veterans and enhance the necessary trust between our men and women in uniform and their Commander-in-Chief.

The Cruz campaign issued the following press release:
HOUSTON, Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today named former U.S. Sen. Bob Smith of New Hampshire, Congressman Jim Bridenstine of Oklahoma, and Texas State Sen. Brian Birdwell as co-chairs of the Cruz for President military coalition, Vets for Ted. Bill Connor will serve as national director.
I am humbled and proud to have Bob, Jim, Brian, and Bill leading the Vets for Ted military coalition, Sen. Cruz said. Sen. Bob Smith, who also serves as co-chair of Sen. Cruzs New Hampshire leadership team, enlisted in United States Naval Reserve during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He served two years of active duty with the United States Navy (1965-1967), which included one year of active duty in the Vietnam conflict aboard the U.S.S. Navasota. He afterwards served five additional years in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Smith represented the state of New Hampshire in the U. S. House of Representatives for six years (1985-1990) and the U. S. Senate for 12 years (1990-2003).
Congressman Jim Bridenstine is a decorated Navy pilot and flew combat missions off the USS Abraham Lincoln in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Operation Southern Watch in Iraq, and Operation Shock and Awe in Iraq. Later, he transitioned to the F-18 Hornet fighter at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, the parent command to TOPGUN, where he flew Red Air and was also an instructor. He is currently a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve where he has flown the E-2C Hawkeye, a surveillance and operations command aircraft, in Central and South America in support of Americas war on drugs. He currently represents Oklahoma’s First District and serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee.
Lt. Col. (Ret.) Brian Birdwell is a decorated military veteran and Texas Senator. He is a Distinguished Military Graduate of the Lamar University Army ROTC program and served the U.S. Army in numerous training deployments and two operational deployments. During his deployment to Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, he was awarded the Bronze Star for Exceptional Meritorious Achievement. Birdwell is a survivor of the 9/11 terror attack on the U.S. Pentagon, which left him critically wounded and severely burned. Following 39 operations, months of hospitalization and numerous skin grafts, Birdwell made a miraculous recovery, was awarded the Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit, and went on to win special election to the Texas Senate in 2010 where he has twice been re-elected and he serves today.
Bill Connor is a decorated U.S. Army combat Infantry officer (Airborne Ranger) and served as senior U.S. military advisor in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He is an expert in geostrategic national security issues, a member of the U.S. Counterterrorism Advisory Team, and founding partner of National Defense Consultants. A graduate of The Citadel and the University of South Carolina School of Law, Connor was a runoff candidate for Lt. Governor and a U.S. Senate candidate in South Carolina. He is also a past GOP chairman for South Carolinas 6th district. As national director of the Cruz for President military coalition, Connor will advise and direct the efforts to build-upon the already growing support for Cruz among military veterans and veteran-support organizations nationwide.
This is a task I do not take lightly, says Connor.
Ok, I get that.
But come on, at SOME point shouldn’t somebody ask this:
“Mr Trump, in 2012 just after the election you said this on illegal immigration:
and on single-payer Healthcare and it being an entitlement you said:
TRUMP: I think you have to have it, and, again, I said Im conservative, generally speaking, Im conservative, and even very conservative. But Im quite liberal and getting much more liberal on health care and other things. I really say: Whats the purpose of a country if youre not going to have defensive and health care?
If you cant take care of your sick in the country, forget it, its all over. I mean, its no good. So Im very liberal when it comes to health care. I believe in universal health care. I believe in whatever it takes to make people well and better.
KING: So you believe, then, its an entitlement of birth?
TRUMP: I think it is. Its an entitlement to this country, and too bad the world cant be, you know, in this country. But the fact is, its an entitlement to this country if were going to have a great country.
And on Gay Marriage and the out of control SCOTUS (note he did not make a statement on the Obamacare ruling)

In fact Trump on any kind of raising taxes, including Capital Gains and tariffs:

So Mr. Trump, why should we trust you now or anything you say when you contradict yourself on a daily basis.
The Cruz Trump dynamic remind me of the tortoise and the hare
My experience is quite different here in GA. Most people in Hispanic Patriots of GA seem to be pro-Cruz. But there is a sprinkling of Rand Paul and Trump supporters among the Hispanics also. They all seem to get along fine. They all seem to have no problem accepting as 2d or 3rd choice Carson or Rubio and some others with no chance to win. Only Jeb is identified as the person everybody ridicules and considers unworthy.
In fact the only strife has been when one person announced that she was no longer a Republican..and that was a Cruz supporter, not a Trump supporter.
If Jeb and Trump are to be beaten, we must unite around the survivors and stay friendly to the Trump supporters. Huckabee, Santorum, Perry, Paul are clearly not going to rise in the polls or election day above their current position. They are toast. The #1 job of supporters of the survivors is to be friendly with them.
The supporters of those voted off the island are ideological. The religious supporters of Huckabee and Santorum should logically jump on the Cruz bandwagon.
But ideology and logic don’t always win. Trump, who never asked God for forgiveness, is attracting the religious, which makes no ideological sense. But that proves other things are at play.
People want a bandwagon, which is Trump right now. The Cruz campaign has to consciously build an image that they are a bandwagon. They have to build a positive campaign that exudes enthusiasm and confidence. (I’m not the one to lead that. My negativity has an important role to play...but leading the bandwagon is not it.)
Little things count. Cruz events in GA have not presented an band wagon image of competence with little things that can be corrected this early in the campaign. But they need to be corrected.
Ted’s message needs to be more positive, more enthusiasm, more energy. In an Aug 19 interview with Talk Radio host Hugh Hewitt on Salem network, Ted took a negative, pessimistic approach and attacked the semi-conservative host with a false accusation that presumed the host was flaming leftie. That is a little mistake. But repeated many times and it defines his image.
Yes, there are some conservative talk radio hosts who are not as conservative as Ted. But anyone who knows Salem radio network knows that the #1 issue is support for Israel. Ted is clearly #1 on Israel among all candidates. So Ted clearly missed a chance to be extremely positive and start the band wagon on that issue.
Israel #1 is also a strong issue with Huckabee supporters. Less so with Santorum supporters who are more anti-Iran than pro-Israel in the prophetic sense.
People want a winner to beat Bush and Clinton. Ted needs to build that image, not of a challenger, not of a conteder, but of a winner.
The Trumpians are like The Donald and what was said or done in the past doesn’t matter today, I’m sure they’ll just go along with whatever when he changes his mind again. I enjoy the disarray within the GOP-E and RNC but I believe this could end badly and be another opportunity squandered.
You’re welcome!
Excellent news!
Just sit tight and keep your powder dry, be patient, Donald Trump serves a purpose.
A lot of ex-Pauline supports who can’t deal with supporting Ted Cruz are Trump supporters.
And Ron Paul OWS trouble makers.
Cruz will never pick up the pro gay marriage and pro abortion libertarians but he’s already making inroads with 10th amendment issues and anti regulatory anti tax pro business issues.
He also speaks of much greater restraint in war fighting. Picking our battles and allies a lot more wisely. Things like arming the Kurds to actually defeat ISIS rather than this perpetual standstill that Obama has them in.
Well said.
The rebuilding of our military is as essential now as it was in 1980. We need the professionals rather than the politicians in military leadership positions.
Thanks for the link to this thread. It’s like a shelter from the storm. So far, the zombie trumpoids remain at bay.
