IIRC, a couple of US servicemen on the train (accounts vary as to branch, but the US Marines were mentioned in the early accounts) heard the terrorist loading and cocking the AK, recognized the sound, and jumped him before he went on a rampage.

Figures. Did one of them get stuck on a church steeple? That happens a lot in France when Americans save the day.

I think that one is active duty Air Force and the other is a National Guardsman. They were joined by their friend, a college student. From what I have read elsewhere, the trio are childhood friends.
