Back then, the frat rats (apologies to rattus norvegicus) were a fairly small presence on campus. A good thing, IMO

> I know a lot of people seem to have an adverse opinion of fraternities and sororities. But I joined a fraternity when I went to a cow college in Oklahoma and it was one of the better experiences of my life.

Over the years, a few chapters have done some bad things, to be sure. But, then, bad things happen in dormitories, too. Not to mention off-campus housing. Frankly, I've never understood the animus.

Every campus that has frats seems to have some well behaved frats, and some that earn every iota of contempt they receive. Like it or not, the contemptible Greek lettered toads color folks’ impression of the entire Greek letter culture. My impression, from three different universities in three states, is that in general Greek letter organizations contribute to the coarsening of campus life.
