Teachers heading back to the classroom will be adding renewable energy to the curriculum to mold future energy leaders to save the planet, thanks to a summer training program run by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Smithsonian Science Education Academies for Teachers.
By teaching the teacher, events like this one make a powerful impact on public understanding of Americas energy needs, states a back-to-school announcement [1]posted on the DOE website earlier this month.
This years academy has just graduated a pool of motivated teachers, ready to arm the next generation of energy leaders to save the planet! said the DOE [1].

True. But today's parents don't want that responsibility.
Channeling my father. Never thought that would happen. Sigh.
Teaching kids to be more responsible about not wasting energy is not a bad thing, I think. Anything that saves me a buck on my power bill, I'm all for.
I suspect, though, that it's more about teaching kids to lecture parents about how evil fossil fuels are, and how we're killing polar bears (or whatever). Too bad, a real opportunity wasted.
