“This is a step toward something much more malignant, ie “comparable worth.” “
Yes, it absolutely is. In fact from the title, that’s what I thought this was going to be. Instead, it’s more ‘salami tactics’. Same ultimate goal, just more patience.

Why should a woman be given credit for time not worked?
Yes, it is good for women to have children. But why the heck should an employer reward a person for taking time off from supporting the company’s bottom line?
Guardsmen support the country. That is a different issue.

I can understand that. I was lucky in my day to be able to get overtime. It helped a lot.
These days even if it’s crystal clear they need you to put in the extra time, they won’t pay for it. The job situation stagnates with work left undone, but hey the bottom line looks great.
Then one day it dawns on them the work isn’t getting done, and then they blame you.
I’d hate to be a Human Resources person these days.

No, not in all circumstances. I agree.
Where there are reasons for it, I don’t mind.
Where there are legitimate beefs with unfairness, I don’t mind it being brought up.
These days everything is deemed unfair, and ultimately, that’s not fair. LOL

should employers not hire young guardsmen?...because they'll have to let them go every summer and even lose them for several months if they get called up...
but there are laws to protect his/her position when he/she returns....
True, but if a Guardsman misses a promotion opportunity while away, he misses it. If we're gone for a year, we miss out on merit raises (at least at my work). Some employers pay you while you're gone, many don't. The only thing the military leave does for you is guarantees you have a job when you return, of equivalent pay/position. Meanwhile, all the other guys who didn;t get deployed have been advancing, getting promotions and raises.
And yes, this happened to me. During AT this year I missed out on some specialized training, which sets me back behind some of the other guys I work with, so they now get preferences on most events.

It is creepy to me how many people are working more then the old 9-5 jobs (at their regular full-time work); Americans workers are steadily losing ground/bargaining power.

Which is really stupid, because sooner or later this will lead to unions getting a foothold again.
You have to treat people decent. Neither management or labor gains by idiotic treatment of the other.

I don’t think it will; unionized workers will simply find themselves replaced by fresh immigrants imported to suppress wages. Employer access to Third World populations has screwed American workers.

In some instances yes. I’m not sure that would work across the board.
