Americans and Cubans who have wanted for decades to hold the islands dictatorship accountable for its human rights crimes absorbed a tough blow. But if the Obama administration wont give them the right Cuba policy, Congress can award them an important and symbolic concession: Rub a reminder of the regimes brutality in its face, every day, by renaming the street where its embassy stands in D.C. after one of its victims, the slain opposition leader Oswaldo Payá.
---
To keep the memory of the regimes victims alive, Congress can rename Washingtons 16th Street Northwest, where the newly reopened embassy sits. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) introduced a bipartisan bill to rename it for Payá, an activist who was expelled from the state-run university in 1972 for practicing Christianity. (Cuba does not condone the free expression of religion.) Payá went on to become one of the most prominent activists for democratization in Cuba and one of the biggest irritants to the Castro regime. You could consider him the Václav Havel of Cuba.
On July 22, 2012, Payá was killed in a car accident in the islands Granma province under mysterious circumstances. The Human Rights Foundation, which conducted an examination of the case, concluded this year that evidence, which was deliberately ignored, strongly suggests that the events of July 22, 2012, were not an accident, but instead the result of a car crash directly caused by agents of the state.
Renaming the Cuban Embassys D.C. address as No. 1 Oswaldo Payá Way would not reverse President Obamas decision to restore diplomatic relations with Cuba, but it would be a visible reminder that the United States supports the hopes and aspirations of Cubas dissidents, too.

eww.
Excellent!
That’s a great idea. Rub it in their face. Cuba hasn’t changed.
Just Do It
Or rename it Libre Street and ban the post office from delivering using the old address.
I wish Ted Cruz and his father had gone to Cuba with John Kerry to the embassy opening rather than Jeff Flake.
It would have jabbed the Castros in the eye and they could have proved that the White House was lying when they said there was no room for Cuban dissidents on the trip.
Cuba won’t change until fidel and raul are dead, and all of their ancient communist/socialst henchmen are dead.
Even then, they end up like Puerto Rico, a failed state due to the several hundred years of spanish socialist brainwashing, like mexico and the rest of central/south america.
I disagree.
The street should be named after USAF Col. Earl Cobeil.

He died of injuries suffered from repeated beatings conducted by a Cuban intelligence officer who was in North Vietnam to help the NVA learn how to “better” interroage US POW’s.
Don’t worry after Obama give them back Guantanamo Bay they will rename it Che Guevara Bay.
