DURHAM - Some Class of 2019 students at Duke University opted out of reading the recommended summer book.\

“Fun Home” is a graphic novel that depicts the author’s, Alison Bechdel, relationship with her father and issues with sexual identity.

According to the Duke Chronicle, some incoming freshmen decided not to read “Fun Home” because of the sexual images and themes conflicted with their personal and religious beliefs.

Some students also added that Duke University didn’t consider people with more conservative beliefs.

The summer reading book committee said the book was controversial but wanted it to spark a discussion even if it was why they chose not to read it.

The book is recommended but optional to read.

“You wouldn’t believe how many supposedly educated people have never heard of the Great White Whale.”

Isn’t that where all those FABULOUS Broadway shows are? Especially the musicals? I love all the singing and dancing.

I think they mean it's a comic book. And Duke costs what, $50K a year?!

Incest — the next “civil rights cause of our time”

I thought pedophilia first, then incest, then bestiality, then necrophilia!

Go figure, college ignored conservatives. Universities these days seem to feel like it is their duty to expose students to the most vile crap under the guise of “diversity”.

LOL - it wasn't a criticism of grammar or spelling.

The young gal thought you were making an off-color remark about your "package" and you then comment Moby Dick. Get it.

Either way your beliefs are not compromised and your grade isn't affected.

Filth is filth either way. I don't mind if you want you children to read it though but pornography has no legitimate place in any classroom.

Upon seeing the look on her face, I quickly referenced the Melville’s novel Moby Dick. She had no idea, didn’t ring a bell at all.

That's both funny and sad at the same time. I guess you're lucky she didn't run to HR to report you.   ;-)
