Chinese shares drop in dramatic free-fall

Chinese shares continued their sharp fall on Monday as concerns over the country's slowing growth and volatile markets sparked panic among traders.
The mainland benchmark index, the Shanghai Composite, fell sharply by 8.4% to 3,211.75 points, extending last week's sharp losses.
The sell-off continued despite China's latest attempts to reassure investors.
Over the weekend, Beijing said it planned to let its main state pension fund invest in the stock market.

My thinking is w/ the fact that China's the world's biggest gold producer plus our upcoming rate-hike-at-all-costs means deflation --buying gold is for inflation.

Fortunately no, but I’d already sold the last of my TDAmeritrade stuff a couple days ago. Today I just used my TDA stock streamer and it worked fine while I sold the last o’ my Scottrade etf.

Can anyone who understands finance (not me) explain if this could be a manipulation related to Trump’s comments about wanting to exert more control over U.S. financial relationships with China? Or just an unrelated event?
