Chinese shares drop in dramatic free-fall

24 August 2015

Chinese shares continued their sharp fall on Monday as concerns over the country's slowing growth and volatile markets sparked panic among traders.

The mainland benchmark index, the Shanghai Composite, fell sharply by 8.4% to 3,211.75 points, extending last week's sharp losses.

The sell-off continued despite China's latest attempts to reassure investors.

Over the weekend, Beijing said it planned to let its main state pension fund invest in the stock market.

make any sense that metals are taking a hit?

My thinking is w/ the fact that China's the world's biggest gold producer plus our upcoming rate-hike-at-all-costs means deflation --buying gold is for inflation.

The Chinese hold a lot of USA paper, when do they start cashing it in?

They can just sell them on the open market.

Or they can wait until they mature and the can get paper dollars for their bonds...

That makes sense. Physical gold should be by definition a buy & hold asset.
Tho I’d hate for the SHTF and have it known that I have a trunk full of gold & silver coins.

Excellent question. There are some possible answers but all of them point to a manipulated market.

Fortunately no, but I’d already sold the last of my TDAmeritrade stuff a couple days ago. Today I just used my TDA stock streamer and it worked fine while I sold the last o’ my Scottrade etf.

Can anyone who understands finance (not me) explain if this could be a manipulation related to Trump’s comments about wanting to exert more control over U.S. financial relationships with China? Or just an unrelated event?
