I may get flamed, but a helmet belongs on a motorcycle rider; on a pedal bike it screams pansy.
Feel free to ride without one. At least here in Indiana it’s not mandatory.
Come to NC and ride with me - either mountain bikes or road bikes. Believe me, you’ll want a helmet.

Yeah nothing as manly as smacking your head on the pavement at 15 mph.
We just had an old current Texas Judge get into a mountain biking accident. He will now be in hospice care the rest of his life. All depends on where you mountain bike, how old you are and how fast you ride. He was wearing a helmet.
No flames, but the life of a dear friend was saved because he had his helmet on while riding a bicycle. He broke every bone in his face, and a majority of the bones above his waist. The helmet was what kept his skull from caving in.
Now as a conservative I believe in personal responsibility, so you absolutely have the right to decide not to wear a helmet. But we need more conservatives in this country, not fewer, so please be careful.
