Soccer is brain damaging from viewing it. If a more stupid ball sport than soccer has been invented, I have yet to see it.

I love football but will we continue watching it 10 years from now?

Only if they get rid of helmets. That would solve most of the problems.

American football, as with baseball and basketball are finished.

They are not world sports. hence many American sports CEOs diversifying into world sports, especially football (soccer).

Nobody knows the clubs and players outside America.

NOBODY cares about American sports. Travel the world! NOBODY CARES!

.
Soccer is not a sport; it is a venue for gambling and gang support.

America doesn’t give a pig’s poop about soccer.

I watched enough soccer when my now grown kids played it.

They too now recognize how socially damaging it is.

Without soccer, the democrat party would have died in the ‘80s.

People know the teams and players outside America. It’s one of the reason the NFL keeps sending the Viking to play in London, for whatever reason the team is very popular in England. And truth told even international sports are local. Sure lots of the world plays soccer, but China doesn’t follow the English Premier league, they follow their own. Ask an Indian about a cricket team from England, even one AT a cricket game and they will probably stare at you blankly, they follow Indian cricket, not English. American sports generally get the best cross border following.

I don’t waste my money on gambling.

"American sports generally get the best cross border following."

I must stress I am NOT anti-American. I love America, and its values.

Nevertheless, NOBODY outside America could name more than 2-4 American sportsman or teams. American sports are irrelevant outside America.

Simply not true. Many can’t I’m sure. Probably even the majority. But not NOBODY. Out here in reality there sports bars specializing in American sports all over the world. And again how many people in Jakarta know anything about British teams in any sport? Even a sport they follow locally. Meanwhile some of the highest attended games in NFL history have been outside America. Up until Jerry Jones built temporary bleachers for the Super Bowl specifically to set a new record the highest attended NFL game ever was a PRE-SEASON game in Mexico city. If NOBODY outside of America knew anything about our sports you’d never get 100,000 people to an NFL game that doesn’t even count.

Even if it’s only 1%, even if it only one half of 1%, thanks to large number math that’s a lot of people.

PS. None are American sports.

You’re avoiding the point. Yes soccer is the most popular sport in the world. But the soccer people follow will be their local soccer, not some other country’s soccer. Ask your nearest soccer fan who they think is going to win Ligue (French top league) 1 this year. If people in Jakarta can name more members of Ligue 1 than the NFL you’ll be right. But I guarantee they can’t, which is my point.

I very much enjoy our discussion. Unfortunately, I have to get to bed, but I promise to get back to you tomorrow. Let me leave you with this. Away from America, from Jakarta to China, South America to Asia To Africa to Europe, there are more shirts worn relevant to soccer than all American sports put together 500,000 times.

As always,

keep smiling .

Philip.

In other words when you travel the world, Americans have a huge disadvantage, if they can't talk soccer (football)

I’m sure there are, but again, soccer from WHERE? That’s the point you keep deliberately ignoring. It’s not the sport, it’s the location. To use your own parlance NOBODY in Jakarta CARES about French soccer. I don’t think we’re in anymore disadvantage than any other traveler. Somebody from America is no less likely to be able to discuss Jakartan soccer than somebody from England. And somebody in Jakarta is no more likely to know anything about the Premier than the NFL.

Soccer the SPORT is international. Outside of FIFA soccer LEAGUES are not.

Why are you posting an article that is 7 months old (and was discussed and dismissed back then)? What is your agenda?
