According to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, an exponential increase in the number of deaths involving marijuana-impaired drivers occurred between 2013 and 2014, reports KOIN.
Marijuana was legalized in the state of Washington in 2014; between 2010 and 2013 the number of marijuana-impaired drivers involved in fatal crashes ranged from 32 to 38 per year. But in 2014, after pot became legal, that number skyrocketed to 75. In half of the 2014 cases, the drug-addled drivers tested above the states legal limit for being under the influence of the drug while driving. Many of the heavily-drugged drivers also tested positive for alcohol or other kinds of drugs.

Well DUH
They forget that other factors may be involved but focus on one that MAY be a contributing factor and blame that one. It fits their agenda. They must have forgot that CLIMATE CHANGE could have altered the drivers senses and caused these accidents.

More likely wrecking because your hand was in the Dorito’s bag.
Just the other day I’m in a merge lane trying to get out in traffic and had to stop. Just as I think I’m getting a break and can go, the lady coming by slows way down and I see her on her freakin’ phone! She blocks me just long enough to screw me and leave me still stuck there, along with a few cars behind me. Ramming should be legal in some cases! The phones are a way bigger hazzard than weed is out there. It’s not even close.
It looks like all the FR dopers have come out of the woodwork.
Nah, some are still sleeping off this mornings buzz.
Washington...Weed and Apples...we does it.
If "Puff piece story" is another term for propaganda, then I agree.
If marijuana related deaths increased by 75 and alcohol deaths decreased by 150, for example, then this would be a huge win for the public. Without ever knowing it, your child could be the beneficiary of such improvement.
To understand the dynamics at play here, one need only remember that the average IQ is 100. Half of our population is below that mark. And they vote.
skyrocket, shmyrocket... were they front or rear enders?
(nah, I didn’t read the thing, was it in the stats?)
"In half of the 2014 cases, the drug-addled drivers tested above the states legal limit for being under the influence of the drug while driving. "
- So, in other words the drivers that were3 actually stoned while driving, and then INVOLVED in a fatal accident tracked to the historical norm of about 35 per year.
"Many of the heavily-drugged drivers also tested positive for alcohol or other kinds of drugs."
- Was it the half bottle of whiskey, or residual pot that was the most likely contributor?
I am certain the stupid will ascribe it to pot.
That's rigtht, I used the "stupid" word.
That study is a deliberate propaganda lie from the legalize drugs crowd. It deliberately leaves out data from around 2003 when the highway fatalities are even lower. It tries to create the impression that there are no bad side effects from legalizing pot, but it is not only equating the rooster crowing with the Sun Rise, it is ignoring other potential causes for a reduction in highway accidents.
Again, it is just propaganda. I've previously gone to the trouble to look up the numbers, and they do not support the conclusions that this propaganda is trying to claim.
Differences between a drunk driver and high driver.....The drunk driver will blow by the stop sign without stopping. The high driver will stop and wait for it to turn green.
Of course it is. The issue has been dominated by deceptive propaganda starting with Harry Anslinger and the first federal marijuana laws back in 1939. Nixon personally appointed Raymond Shafer to head the committee to research the issue and advise Congress on how it should be classified. By all accounts, he undertook this without any personal agenda and reported only what was objectively defensible and supported by the available scientific research.
They buried that report in the deepest hole they could find.
Ya think ? I live in Wa state, and for every one of these "skyrocketing" oh-noes BS articles against, there's thirty saying how it's all hunky dory. Both sides are full of crap.
Well there is logic and conclusions that conclude that drugging your brain will mess up your perception driving, taking care of others or using machinery?
Recreational or other drug use makes permanent negative changes to the brain and probably restricts your ability to earn over a lifetime.
I get it for very sick people, but all others are drug addicts trying to feel some kind of respect for their medicated recreational condition.
Losers IMO.
Don’t know what country you live in, but in the USA driving under the influence of drugs or booze has been a felony for decades.
Between vape shops and synthetic pot we see a lot of zombies walking around.
Another offshoot of these idiotic ‘legal Marijuana’ laws is job the consequences while looking for a job. Many employers drug test. I have not heard of any state legislatures changing the law to account for this. In some places the tokers can obtain a ‘legal’ Marijuana card from the local Dr. Feelgood. While the Marijuana may be technically legal, they cannot get a job, which is probably the libs intent in the long run anyway. Keep the Low Information Voters dumb & stupid, and on the public dole.
