.....on my coffee table, 4 feet from my grasp, is a .500 MAGNUM Smith and Wesson (8 3/4 barrel)

I bought it for protection on the Yukon River because I am alone when I’m on the river each year.

That said, it’s reassuring where it sits now even though where I live few even lock their doors and there has never been ANY crime that I know of.
