The population of Mexico is 120,000 according to Wikipedia.

I think you missed some numbers there.

My old world atlas printed in 1969 states the population of Mexico was about 146 million at that time.

That was 46 years ago, so the number must be much higher now.

Maybe he means there are only 120,000 left in Mexico. The rest are here already.

Wikipedia shows the population of Mexico at slightly less than 122 million as of 2015. If the population was 146 million in 1969 did the missing 24 million all emigrate north?
