There use to be a 20 mile force march with 70lbs of gear.

Of course they removed that.

It looks like the standards were the same for everyone.

The question is whether they were watered down for everyone so the gals could pass. For instance, a buddy of mine went through Marine OCS around the time of GW-I, and they could be ordered to do 100 push-ups at a clip at a moment's notice if their examiners had a whim to watch them do it. That kind of thing happened all the time. I would have thought the Ranger tab would be at least as "costly."

If memory serves, chin-ups and pull-ups are different animals, contingent on hand position.

I could do 10 pull-ups, out of boot camp, 70 sit-ups, a 3-mile in 20 minutes, (And I was slow.) 60 push-ups. Did more than oone 6 mile run in NCO school. There was a running argument about doing the PFT in boots or running shoes.

There has GOT to be more to it. Falling out of a Chithook 3 times is just remembering to keep your knees bent.

12 miles with 100 lbs of gear, armor, weapon, ammo, and then running a live fire tactical problem, tho, is hard. (The SAS calls it 'tabbing' for some obscure British reason.)

I figure they would have to jam it all together into one long series, none of this eating a sleeping nonsense.

Can they haul a male soldier with all their gear off the battlefield should it come to that? That’s the question I think we need answered.

Chin ups are much easier.

I could do 10 pull-ups, out of boot camp

The required minimum to go airborne in WW2.

“If they can pass the test (and the test hasn’t been made easier just so they can pass) Then I say let them in.”

You really want to lower the morale of the special forces that much? Wow! You really must like the vaginized society we have so far!

I don’t think that’s it. Basically, I don’t believe this is legit. I’m just an average guy, pretty fit, wrestled in high school, ( OK, above average :-) I’ve been in too many situations ...

I knew a few guys in the Corps who had the Ranger tab and they said it was fairly strenuous but mostly just games. They learned a lot and took pride in the tab.

"...100 push-ups at a clip at a moment's notice if their examiners had a whim to watch them do it."

Officially, they do bends and whoopies or whatever until the Drill Instructor gets tired, bored, or they are vomiting up their socks.

Those who call them "D.I." not knowing it stands for Damned Idiot... It gets ugly.

Reminds me of a joke from about 2002:
“What makes the Iraqi Republican Guard ‘elite’?”
They’re fed three times a day.

Nothing personal, ladies, but I weigh 210 pounds.
If you can’t drag an unconscious me a few feet, our
relationship seems to me to be a little one-sided.

I’m as open-minded as the next guy, but let’s face it:
This is just Obama’s homo/trannie/diversity policies hurting the military and America.

Exactly what I was thinking. Pathetic. They’ve lowered the standards.

Two out of how many dozens that attempted? That IS a noteworthy accomplishment and shouldn’t be dismissed with such sexist sarcasm. By all accounts if you’ve been reading the news, the Army did not lower the standards. Celebrate their success or mourn the loss of feminimity this represents.

Comment I saw online recently from a former Ranger on the subject:

"A final example of where the U.S. military is going right now. Many have heard about the women in ranger school experiment. The Army scoured the military for a couple of years and found 19 women that might have a chance. They were allowed unlimited train up time, had special observers to insure fairness etc. and so far 3 have actually passed 1 phase, after 3 recycles. Great so for 2 years the Army has devoted time, money and resources to this project for maybe 3 women to make it (they are only in the mountain phase so far, about 1/2 way through). While I don't care who goes or passes Ranger School (it is a tab/school not a scroll); however I do care about the effort and amount of resources on this project when we are cutting 10's of thousands of combat Soldiers from the Army and units are scrapping the bottom of the barrel for money to train to fight and win wars. The military has turned into a social lab for the PC police; sorry but the end goal of the military is to fight and win wars and sadly that is no the focus of the military currently."

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but women are just too vulnerable to mistreatment at the hands of the enemy. Captured they become sex toys and propaganda targets much more than a man would.

I also think men are more inclined to think of the women just because they are women.

Men in situations work best with just men.

People can call me on this, and they may be right. This is my gut take on it.

As so many have said for so many years, put them in their own all-woman infantry unit. Then send them against the enemy on their own, with no other combat units as crutches and no Hollywood-like video presentations by special operations units, when the opportunity is presented. In other words...no more sleight-of-hand or other deceptions for duping our civilian populace.

I’m pretty sure we had to do more than 10 pull ups just to make it through basic training back in the 70’s.

In a real war—nation against nation—the folly will be realized. Men will start telling the truth, after enough men and women are killed unnecessarily. Several other nations have already learned the lesson and changed their policies accordingly.

To earn the Ranger tab, applicants must be able to complete 49 push-ups, 59 sit-ups, a five-mile run in 40 minutes, six chin-ups, a swimming test, a land navigation test, a 12-mile foot march in three hours...

Is it just me, or does this seem like it's not hard enough?

I can do a decent portion of this at 64 years of age.

Most graduates of Ranger School do not go into the Ranger units.
