U.S. government officials have intervened in a long-running lawsuit against the Palestinian Authority, asking a federal judge to “carefully consider” the bond he would require the group to pay as it appeals a jury verdict awarding hundreds of millions of dollars in damages to terror victims.
In February, a federal jury found the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization liable for supporting six terrorist attacks in Israel over a decade ago and ordered the groups to pay $218.5 million to the victims and their families. Under the U.S. Antiterrorism Act, the damages are automatically tripled to more than $655 million.
