The Chinese tell me over 1,000 dead. Official reports far less.
I’m hearing greater than that number by far. Logistics operations in that part of the country are crippled and the loss of life & property is more than the Chinese will ever admit to. The entire event is being censored within the country.
In this case there is a problem with reporting killed that can be excused. Reported injured is based on those treated for injuries, so it is a lot easier. But this explosion was so hot that it burned the paint off all of those cars, after shattering their glass and melting all their plastic.
What it would do to human bodies, especially those where the fire lasted, is that there might be very little remains left.
There are many stories in modern wars where a soldier was next to one hit by a high explosive round, leaving almost no body. Yet because there are no dog tags or other identifiable remains, they have to be listed as MIA.
