Trump is a crybaby, not a bully
Washington Post ^ | 8/11/15 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 08/11/2015 8:06:55 AM PDT by ghost of stonewall jackson

Trump's defenders deep in the heart of the right-wing echo chamber were incensed Trump would be asked to defend his record and egregious language. For a group that dishes it out unmercifully to every insufficiently conservative Republican and to all liberals, they sure seem squeamish when their pet candidate is on the receiving end.

Attacking Fox from the right was a sign both of Trump and his supporters' desperation and delusion. Fox is trying to "take out" Trump? On the contrary, the cable news giant has milked his candidacy for ratings and drew in a stunning 24 million viewers for the first debate. Moreover, Trump is still exempt from serious policy questions. (What is his tax reform plan? How would he balance the budget?)

It's obvious that Trump had his bubble burst in the debate, but his post-debate temper tantrum now threatens to marginalize him even among staunch conservatives. Characters such as Trump (and defenders of extreme and less adept candidates) don't like being challenged on national TV. Well, too bad. As Trump would say, voters "don't have time" for complainers. "This country is in big trouble. We don't win anymore," as Trump put it when asked about his vile comments about women.

The problem is that Trump isn't a real candidate and is not a real front-runner. He's the flavor of the month, the Don Rickles of politics, a bully and a buffoon. He brags that he made millions in Atlantic City while firing over a thousand workers and that he gave money to Hillary Clinton to get her to come to his wedding. (Why would he want her there? No other GOP contender would.) He revels in his ignorance. As such, he is getting nowhere near the White House (even by invitation).

Left-wing press:

“The problem is that Trump isn’t a real candidate and is not a real front-runner. He’s the flavor of the month, the Don Rickles of politics, a bully and a buffoon.”

People on FR:

“Trump is very thin skinned and self centered. He is like a child who always needs attention. If you do or say something he doesn’t like, he doesn’t want to play with you anymore.”

“Trumps supporters have taken on Trump’s cult of personality. They are like a bunch of little Trumps under a spell. It is pretty funny. I expect to see it on DU, but never expected to see it on FR.”

And you people STILL don’t get why he’s so popular? When you have the “I know betters” on both ends taking a crap on the people that genuinely have taken to the guy, that just fuels the elitism charges that people have always suspected existed on both sides. That conservatives are just no different than leftists. They just want to tell you how to think from the other direction, and shame you if you dont.

Appeal to these people, and they might take to your preferred candidate, because they don’t owe (insert name here) a vote.

Right now Trump has mass appeal to some Democrats (Viewers View) and others who have never thought about voting (92 year old lady).

Jeb, Marco, Kasich and others won’t draw those people to our side.

I wonder, if Trump gets the nomination, what his convention would look like? My guess is he pays someone to build a 40 foot statue of him to put in the middle of the floor and all speakers and attendees will bow to it.

I'm not on the Trump band wagon, but Rubin is the ignorant one.

He's the flavor of the month

For 3-4 months.

the Don Rickles of politics

Rickles was great and has a long career.

a bully and a buffoon

Yet name calling is bad when Trump does it.

He brags that he made millions in Atlantic City while firing over a thousand workers

How many did Carly fire?

and that he gave money to Hillary Clinton to get her to come to his wedding. (Why would he want her there? No other GOP contender would.)

Jeb, for one.

What a hypocritical hack is Rubin. She belongs at the WaPo.

I’ve got 16 months to evaluate Trump. I am a Cruz/Walker supporter. They have been consistent conservatives all of their lives. I do not want to risk the Republic on a “johny -come-lately” charlatan. The problems are too serious. Does Trump know how to negotiate the vagaries of politics ang get things done? Does he know the role of the Executive vis-a-vis the Legislative and judicial branches. Doe he know how to handle the 2 am calls? Does he know how to seek divine guidance when every newspaper and pundit is out to get him? Does he know how to handle a 17 trillion dollar deficit? Does he know how to reign in entitlements? Can he set a moral example for a nation bent on wickedness? These are serious times and require a Lincolnesque wisdom. Does Trump have this. I will wait and see.

How were they out to get him? They didn’t give him any tough questions. They only asked questions that played into his campaign theme. They rigged it in his favor.

I expect to see it on DU, but never expected to see it on FR.

You must have been around to witness Palin Derangement Syndrome in 2008 or the Newtfest in 2012. You couldn't say anything remotely questionable about those two without being piled on. There are lemmings on all sides of the political spectrum.

Trump does up front, what the rest of them do behind closed doors.

Oh, so you want Democrats and LIV's choosing our candidate for us? You want a candidate that's beholden to Democrats and LIV's?

I don’t think the issue is that Trump can’t handle attacks. The issue is that, we, the public, don’t accept that it is proper for debate moderators to be the ones doing the attacking. Leave that to the other candidates, the talking heads, the opinion columnists.

Exactly. I don’t have to worry right now whether or not he’s POTUS-worthy. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

What I do support, is him taking on, along with Cruz, the GOPe and the established political order and the Government-Media Complex.

“Right now Trump has mass appeal to some Democrats...”

Maybe, but he also has high overall negatives (people who have already decided they won’t vote for him). So to focus on only one aspect of those polls is myopic. If he brings in 10% more new voters that we wouldn’t normally get, but loses 20% of reliable voters we would normally get, it’s a net loss.

Of course, if Trump did the opposite, took his lumps and remained silent about the treatment he received during the debates, we’d be treated to headlines stating that Trump was humbled and taken down a peg. We’d be hearing about how Megyn Kelly and FoxNews socked it to Trump and found a way to shut down his loud mouth.

When low calibre journalists become obsessed with someone they perceive as a threat, they throw caution to the winds, and let their myopic hatred flow freely. The tip-off is always an over-reliance on the ex-cathedra pronouncement. The basic argument is that they charge one with deficiencies based upon completely circular charges of deficiencies.

Unless you are in a Soviet Union or a Nazi Germany, endlessly repeated accusations, without demonstrated evidence to support same, does not make a credible case.

03:01  You know you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, ah blood coming of her..., where ever...

04:50  Believe me, there's a big difference between Mike Wallace and Chris Wallace.  Because I watched him last night, blood pouring out of his eyes too.
