“Just like every form of racing. The guys that built the sport hardly made squat. Many of the drivers today make that in a season. Some a whole lot more.”

Yes, and now with the “cookie cutter cars” (some running engines that have never seen the engine bay of the cars they produce), NASCAR is now just a media circus with cars. BTW, I don’t think any of the “good old boys” ever ran liquor in a Tojoda.”

“NASCAR is now just a media circus with cars”

And there is no end of newscasters and pundits wringing their hands about how to fix the declining ratings. All they’ve got to do is look back into history:

Skinny tires, 1000+ horsepower engines, no aero, no power steering, no cool suits, brake it or slide it through the corner - no car can take the corner flat. Of course it will mean a lot of the current pretty boy drivers will get replaced with not so pretty drivers - but the racing will be great again!

We were in Mooresville, stopped into a BBQ joint for a late lunch. Short time later, Buddy and a friend came in, sat down at the table next to us and regaled us with stories of NASCAR for the next hour. Neat time.

He always had the hardest luck though. There were so many races that he should have won, but, something would break, or there would be a caution, and out he went.

Had that red and black #6. Saw him once with a Super Bird.
