It was not her choice. Doesn't work to blame the victim. One of my coworkers was married to a possessive loser and had four kids with him. Eventually she tired of the ownership life and was divorcing him. He shot her in the face in front of all four kids, then went to kill her parents but only Grandpa was home. Then left the kids on the lawn at the grandparents home, took a hostage and holed up in body armor at her place, after apparently making a wrong turn. My workplace was in lockdown because he had threatened to come there and kill her coworkers who were helping her to get free. The community raised just about 100 grand since this happened last November and are building Grandma and the four kids a new larger home. There is a great TED talk I watched once about men who slowly seduce educated professional women into that kind of slavery. This killing was, like that of my former coworker, about a failed escape attempt.

Awful. I would be interested to see the documentary. Leaving an abusive relationship is about the most dangerous thing a woman can do. It would be good to have people more aware of the early warning signs in a prospective partner. But I suppose that it is all very good during the first part of the relationship, and then once she is committed to him, and possibly with children, then she starts being treated like a prisoner.
