Fiorina impresses as Trump's schtick wears thin
IBD / Investor's Business Daily ^ | 2015 August 08 | Andrew Malcolm

Republicans opened their debate season Thursday in Cleveland and produced the beginning of the beginning for a Carly Fiorina surge and the beginning of the end for a Donald Trump campaign. ..... < snip >

..... In the prime-time tilt, Trump was a major loser, coming off as mean and shallow. ..... < snip >

.... Worse, he was the only Republican who refused to pledge no third-party campaign. "If they don't treat me well," Trump said later, "Why should I make that pledge?" As the poll front-runner, Trump had the most to lose in Cleveland. And he did.

But the star of the night was the little-known Fiorina, who totally dominated the early debate of seven. She displayed an impressive breadth of knowledge of the issues, a precision of language, wove in her Horatio Alger bio (office secretary to chief executive of the world's largest tech company) and showed no hesitancy to throw an elbow.

She credited Trump with tapping into a deep vein of American anger: "Americans are sick of politics as usual. The political class has failed you." But then, referring to Trump's Democrat past, Fiorina said, "I didn't get a phone call from Bill Clinton. Maybe because I didn't give money to his foundation or donate to his wife's Senate campaign."

Among those watching that debate and commenting on social media, Fiorina was virtually the unanimous winner. ..... < snip >

..... Trump was, well, Trump. But less so. ..... Asked to explain his companies' numerous bankruptcies, Trump sounded like Clinton explaining her email imbroglio, claiming he did nothing illegal, simply used existing laws. .....

Not impressed with her in terms of presidential candidates.

Geraldine should have been at the top of the ticket. I think most voters think “he picked a woman just to try to pick up votes”. And they’re right.

I don’t agree that she is “hitting them out of the park” at all. I think I would have done okay debating those midgets. LOL And Sarah Palin wouldn’t know me from Adam.

Ferraro was a poor and bizarre choice (Husband had financial issues) and Palin a mixed blessing but neither was the reason their man lost. Mondale was gonna lose badly, period, his VP was of no consequence after Reagan tore his throat out in their debate. There is some evidence Palin helped a bit with the woman’s vote and the base loved her. McCain wasn’t gonna win after the financial collapse, and his response to it, a different running mate would have changed nothing, the man at the top of the ticket was the problem, he was a fool.

I think there’s an excellent chance the GOP nominee, who will be a man and likely running against Hillary, will want a woman on his ticket. Because, duh. I mean really, duh. Dismissing the notion because the Ferraro and Palin weren’t elected is absurd.

Fiorina and Gov. Susana Martinez and are the likeliest female choices.

You’re assuming that Hillary Clinton won’t pass away, become too ill, be indicted or lose the nomination in some other fashion. I assume no such thing. Her poll numbers go down every time I see them.

I’ve been reading excerpts from Donald’s book, “Time To Get Tough,” on the internet, and have to say I’m impressed. He does have a good grasp of the issues and solutions, and is conservative in his viewpoints. (2011 edition). He quotes Reagan policies and slams Obama pretty hard. It is available to read here: http://www.ontheissues.org/Get_Tough.htm By the way, he literally hates the MSM and that is why he will never back down from them. I’m also listening to “Art of The Deal,” on youtube to get a better feel of the man. He hates parties and small talk, and is a workaholic. He doesn’t start projects to abandon them. That tells me he gave this candidacy some serious though before entering it. The only one he ever called “honey,” is his brother, Robert, who works as a VP with him. He talks about Ivana - (this is an old book) with deep respect and love. He isn’t wasteful, so that tells me he would be the same way with our monies in the government. It is over 9 hours long and the audio isn’t great, but, it’s very interesting. (He doesn’t do the audio -just in case anyone wants to know).

Well, I can’t recall the last time a POTUS candidate dropped dead, or the last time a democrat grand poombah was indicted by a democrat DOJ, and she has no foe currently who can beat her (don’t say Sanders, I laugh, Biden maybe if he runs) so yes I assume and I’m fairly confident in my assumption.

But say she’s not on the ticket, fine. So what? All the more reason to put a woman on GOP ticket, as McCain did after she lost in 2008 and Obama picked Biden. Women are half the country and both parties would like to be first in getting one in P or VP, duh. So women WILL be considered just for the sake of their being women.

Really, this is a silly argument by you. The GOP nominee won’t be thinking “gee well Ferraro lost so I better pick a dude”. Come on man.

I don’t think that it was Sarah’s fault that McCain lost, as someone here (Not you Impy) implied it was.

I never thought that.

Carly did real good.

But this is snapshot in time.

The problem with this is - even though women are half of the nation - the majority won’t vote for another female candidate as president or vice president. With Sarah, the media did a number on her, and let’s get real - most women were jealous of her looks, brains and Todd. I disagree with you that a woman on the ticket will be a winning combination. I don’t think America is ready now or ever to turn the reins of the government over to a female. Is this sexist? Yes, it is, but, truth. And, I’m female, by the way.

That isn't what I said though you could infer that. I do think having a woman to attack Hillary would be a positive. I think back to her first Senate debate, Rick Lazio was accused of "bulling" the poor dear. When women are on trial the prosecutors like to have a woman DA lead the charge.

What I said though was, female candidates WILL be considered. And I believe they will be. And it's only a matter of time I think before one will be elected.

The problem with this is - even though women are half of the nation - the majority won’t vote for another female candidate as president or vice president.

Well I won't pretend to know how your sex thinks or wants, lol. None of us do. ;)

I don’t think America is ready now or ever to turn the reins of the government over to a female. Is this sexist? Yes, it is, but, truth. And, I’m female, by the way.

I have some misgivings myself. Thatcher showed a woman could thrive, but she may be the exception that proved the rule.

What you miss is that whenever the woman has been added to the ticket, it made the ticket more competitive than it was before hand. Two is not a trend either.

Don’t get me wrong. I like Carly in this race, if for no other reason than she can take it to Hillary the way a man can’t or won’t. No one can accuse the party of sexism that way. She serves a purpose and I hope she can survive for as long as possible.

Losing Senate campaign against an über-liberal in an über-liberal state. The ridiculously long odds against her chances of winning against Boxer in California were only exceeded by those of Trump winning a 3-way next year. The leader of ISIS would sooner kiss the pope’s ring than either of those possibilities coming to pass.

Republicans opened their debate season Thursday in Cleveland and produced the beginning of the beginning for a Carly Fiorina surge and the beginning of the end for a Donald Trump campaign.

This looks like more wishful thinking.

Those who are afraid of Trump keep grabbing at straws and wanting him to go away.

Donald Trump is exactly the leadership this country needs to become great again.

Yeah right. Trump is the leadership we need.
We need the type of leadership that refers to a woman must be on the rag everytime a woman questions him.

We need the type of leadership where we are forced to defend a locker room remark for weeks at a time.
Yeah thats the type of leadership you find on the street corner.

Speaking of Mondale and Ferraro...I went to the 84 RNC in Dallas. Picked up a bumper sticker...”Vote Wally and the Beaver”. One of my most prized possessions.

Agree.
