"90,000 dead? Wishful thinking on DM’s part."

Think he is talking about initial deaths. With the ash cloud covering most of the Earth for so long, it could be a near Extinction Level Event. Remote societies could survive, but for all practical purposes, the USA would be over, or at least reduced to 3rd world status.

Even the "preppers" would run out of supplies and resources before the cloud dissipates and the Earth heals. Think of all the rivers, streams, creeks that would be fouled by ash and sulfuric acid. Ground water may filter out most of that for wells, but what about crops, livestock, and wild game?

Mount St. Helens was a pimple compared to what the Yellowstone cauldron is.

There was a science fiction short story many years ago, in which Yellowstone was showing signs of erupting. So engineers came up with a novel way of dealing with it.

First they built an enormous man made river, diverting several natural rivers into it, all the way from Canada, leading to a giant reservoir. When the reservoir was full, they detonated underground nuclear explosives outside of the massive underground magma chamber, creating very deep and wide trenches that were immediately flooded by dam water.

Resulting in a giant wall of steam from the exceptionally hot rock. As that rock cooled, in turn it drew heat from the magma.

Hundreds of years later, the endless production of steam would cool the magma enough to end the threat of eruption.

The story suggested that all that moisture added to the air would make the great plains far lusher than it is today.

The eruption would be caused by global warming, and would be Bushes fault.

I’ve got a good view - almost a front row seat

We still have a little room up front here in Livingston.

We're planning a barbeque...come on down!

By the time I figure out how to pronounce that they could die of old age.

Layer of molten ash? This I have to see. This must be one smart scientist and it’s imperitive we throw more money at him to continue his research.

Between that and the mile wide meteor we are all doomed.

I predict that the Sun goes supernova and the earth will be evaporated.
And all the monuments man built to themselves will no longer exist.

A joyous moment of reality written for Liberals.

Not really

How many people would die after just 3 days without water?
Considering those who can’t or will not be able to evacuate when all public services and transport of food and water into their area is stopped
Also when power goes out how many frail and sick people die?

It is not just the immediate effect but the 2 weeks following that will take a huge toll on life until some type of organized response can be mounted - can you envision a mass exodus or evacuation of just Denver under several feet or more of fine ash?

Keep an eye on the seismic activity in and around Puerto Rico

IF it ever blows up, which hasn’t happened with people on the continent. And there’s nothing we can do about it anyway. Really this is one of those things to ignore. It’s probably not going to happen in your lifetime, and if it does your survival is largely a matter of chance.

Looks like we could be due anytime on the rough cycle of 600-700k years

Wonder if a seismic event on the west coast or in the Madrid could trigger this?

Would that be the sound of masses running for the boats to leave their economy,
and bring their votes to the Mainland for another run?

The Canary Islands may go first ... the standing wave tsunami generated will travel at 400-600 mph and hit the east coast at several thousand feet in height, only stopped by mountains higher than it. The dead will be in the millions ... There will be no Eastern US, just a wasteland.

I had a dream a couple decades ago of clouds coming from the NW over Texas,
rolling fast across the sky. I remember saying, this is it to my mother.
In my dream it was the second coming.

They say that one also is not “ if” but “ when”

Geology shows cycles to these events, they were not one time wonders

We are a young species and a young civilization and we are so complacent
