Even before he officially began his run for the presidency, real estate developer Donald Trump has provoked a lot of comparisons to Ross Perot, the Texas billionaire who first ran for president in 1992.
Its not hard to see why people would make such analogies: the two men have a lot of similarities: Both made lots of money utilizing government to their personal advantage, both raised complaints about Americas dealings with its Latin neighbors, both have long records of favoring abortion rights (although Trump now says he is pro-life), and both candidates have favored a populist demeanor and pox-on-all-your-houses speaking styles.
All of the above has fueled nearly endless speculation about whether Trump might consider running as a third-party candidate should he be unable to attain. Hes been asked about it repeatedly and officially has not ruled it out.
Beyond the hard-charging rhetoric and third-party buzz, though, there is another thing that Perot and Trump share in common: they may have the same people supporting them, disaffected white men who favor some liberal economic policies.
One of the most inaccurate conventional political beliefs is that Perot cost George H. W. Bush the 1992 election. Had Perot not run in the race, goes the theory, there was no way that Democrat Bill Clinton could have won.

that is beri beri bad for Yeb.
Makes sense, given Trump’s many liberal & moderate positions.
What a B. S. article. You hit the link and all it talks about is Ross Perot and the comparison of Trump to him.
I will admit that I didn’t got to the second page.
Bogus headline. This was just yet another angle on taking Trump down.
The headline material wasn’t touched on inside the first page.
No thanks...
I hope he liberally kicks Zero out of the WH for distance.
Typical anti-Trump garbage. You have other polls that claim that ONLY conservatives are supporting Trump. LOL.
...and also the fact that the more liberal you get, the dumber you get.
He’s #2 among self-identified “very conservative” Republicans, #1 among “somewhat conservative”, #1 among the “moderate” group.
It looks like he’s doing pretty well among all groups.
I know it’s not always popular here in FR, including with the big guy, but I will generally be comfortable with someone who I do not agree with on some issues if they fight like hell for much of what I do believe. I felt that way in Rudy in 2008. I’d much rather have a fighting Giuliani up there with 70% agreement than a Mitt or McCain who are more like 90% as far as an election platform, but refuse to fight the fight. I won’t support Trump in the primaries, but I’d fight like hell for him in November ‘16.
Donald Trump polling best among liberal and moderate RepublicansI didn't know there were so many liberal and moderate Republicans on this site...
And then it's all about Perot, Perot, Perot, Perot. I wonder how many voters let alone FR members even know who Perot was/is? Some were probably not even born yet.

Fact of the matter is, Trump is basically leading with a different group depending on the poll. My conclusion: he’s popular with every group, even women and minorities.
Agreed. They can deny all they want to, but Trump has a lot of support across the spectrum. He will appeal to Reagan Democrats, as well.
As some of you noticed, I inserted Ross Perot vs Rand Paul in my comments. I had just come from a topic involving Perot and his name slipped in there.
Sorry about that.
One of you touched on Paul’s showing with very Conservatives for his positioning.
This isn’t a debate for very Conservative people. It’s a Republican debate. If that were the criteria for placing Paul in that position, what’s the reasoning for placing Bush first?
I don’t think the “Conservative” positioning flies.
Cruz and Walker show quite well also.
Bush? LOL, not with Conservatives...
Good. I’ll take Trump over any of the RINOs who claim to be “moderate”. Bush, Christie, Rubio, and the other pro-Amnesty traitors are completely unacceptable. I’ll take an unknown like Trump over them any day. I’m hoping the establishment will jump for Walker or (I know - dreaming!) Cruz to stop Trump, but I suspect they hate small government conservatives more than they fear Trump.
Nail - head.
For those who don’t know, Perot was the last guy to tell the truth about free trade and the race to the bottom.
Rove and Hume will explain how this is the end of Trump.
Pray America is waking
Sure, it was possible that Clinton could have won without Perot in the race, but campaigns are complicated things, and Perot's bashing Bush certainly could bury GHWB.
These voters are probably to the right on immigration.
A border wall before starting 10 wars or worrying about tax reform.
