Pets, perhaps, but if their owners are letting them run around and eat food laying around, then they are little better than strays anyway.
As for people? Put a sign up with a skull and crossbones, so even illiterates will know not to eat the stuff. If they ignore that, then it’s no loss to the gene pool.

Meh, rat poison is a cruel way to die, yet nobody cries for the rats. I have little sympathy for arguments that hinge on the cuteness of the creature you are applying them too.
