A majority of blacks in the United States - more than 3 out of 5 - say they or a family member have personal experience with being treated unfairly by the police.
A majority of whites in the United States - more than 99 out of 100 - say they or a family member have NEVER HAD a personal experience with the police.

I guess I am part of the 3%.

In any event, note that it included family members. That’s an easy way to inflate the numbers.

What percentage has problems with ANY authority, generally?

I’m white and I’ve been treated unfairly. Been stopped for driving violations 5 times in my life and 4 of those resulted in a ticket. :)

Ax the police how blacks have behaved and treated them when they have police-citizen interactions. This story has two sides to it.

Long story, but I had a College buddy (white) who told me in High School he was out late messing around. He mouthed-off to the COPs and by morning he showed up at home pretty battered up. He told his parents about his treatment and they said he deserved it and next time come home a curfew. I think this white guy was treated fairly compared to Juvenile court.

Same thing happened to college buddy who got beat-up by Chicago police and believe me they know how not to leave marks. Parents had same reaction (he is Hispanic)

I had an incident in HS where the cop told me to "run along young man" so I went home. Never told my parents.

Half of blacks say police have treated them unfairly (vs. only 3 percent of whites)

Of course my basic impulse is to say, "so what?". Stuff happens. Mind your P's & Q's and it won't happen nearly as often.

I just have to say, you treat the police with respect, you’ll get it back.

You start mouthing off to the cops, well Chris Rock said it best:

There was a recent shooting of a white police officer by a black youth in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Here's a comment from a friend of the black perpetrator:

His longtime friend, Stephanie King, who lived in the house where he was eventually found, defended him, telling local news station WISN that she wasn’t going to “throw him to the wolves.”

“I’m going to keep loving him because he ain’t do no wrong,” she said. “He just shot a cop.”

This is going to be perceived by some as being a racist comment, but I would venture to guess that a much higher percentage of blacks have had encounters with police than those of other races.

A majority of blacks in the United States - more than 3 out of 5 - say they or a family member have personal experience with being treated unfairly by the police, and their race guilt is the reason why.

One small correction..

Well... I’ve never broken the law so I can’t really say I’ve ever given the police a reason to accost me.
I wear my britches on my waist, with a belt, like a man. I speak coherent English, not jive ‘he be aint did nuttin’.

Police officers look at me and see a well mannered, civilized, productive member of society.

Perhaps if I got myself arrested a dozen times so that police were familiar with me... got some gold teeth and face tattoos... started speaking expletive-laced jive ebonics and wore my pants off my butt... then maybe I could experience some of this unfair treatment that I hear so much about.

So 4 out of 10 black women think they’ve been treated unfairly by police, too?

Yeah, race could ONLY be the reason.

This information, from a survey conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, comes as the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, approaches its first anniversary and the nation continues to grapple with police-related deaths of black Americans.

When I was in college I was constantly getting pulled over. Never once got a ticket. I asked an officer once about why I was getting pulled over so often. He said that since I had out of state tags on my truck, I raised more suspicion. Since I wasn’t actually doing anything wrong, and didn’t have an attitude, cops never “found” a reason to give me a ticket. Usually, just showing them my college ID would make it go quicker.
