Montgomery County has erected a wooden box around a Confederate monument recently spray-painted with the words “Black Lives Matter,” in hopes of shielding the statue from further vandalism as officials seek to move it out of downtown Rockville.

County workers put up the barrier Friday, about a week after the words appeared across the base of the 102-year-old bronze statue of a Confederate soldier

Montgomery County would be a lot safer it they put their leader Ike Leggett in the box where he can do no more damage.

I’ll take a padded cell instead if you promise to keep him in it.

Funny how black lives don’t matter to blacks ... They kill each other by the hundreds, every day across America, just for sport. And how many of their own children do they abort? The men knock up one girl after another - and never take responsibility. They proudly live off of the welfare state - and then demand reparations for a system they never suffered under, while they willingly submit to slavery beneath the boot of their liberal masters. So, the truth is that black lives only matter to the parasitical maggots who create and then feed upon black ignorance.

Maryland was an occupied State during the War. The invasion by northern Militias sparked rioting in Baltimore which is mentioned in the State Song. Railroad bridges were burned, and other acts performed to make troop movements more difficult, and a host of Marylanders left for Southern States to enlist.

BTW, the Mason-Dixon line goes between MD and PA--Maryland is on the south side.

Yeah they were probably Southerners at one time but their ancestors rode the nigra soul train north in the 1800s.

They be free to disgrace all the monuments in the north as they please.

If the group that put up the monument followed customary practice, the monument was given to the county at its dedication way back when and thus became public property.

Defacing/damaging public property is a crime. I guess defacing it also could be a hate crime if the intent was to intimidate. However, I’m not sure if the message “Black Lives Matter” conveys a threat or enough of an overt threat to be considered intimidation.

The monument has value and artistic merit. The question that Montgomery County, MD (now (and for some time preceding) a majority black county) has to solve is what to do with it. Entombing it (as has been done) at least removes the focus of aggravation and protects the monument from further damage until a measured and well thought out solution can be arrived at.

In my personal opinion, I think it will be crated and removed to be placed in storage in some county warehouse or at the back of some county vehicle parking lot. Maybe it will, as President Obama said, end up in a museum. Perhaps, in time, such monuments will be sent from all over the “New South” to some central location to create some great Confederate monument statuary garden. Stone Mountain?
