Trump: Shut Down the Government Over Planned Parenthood

Donald Trump says that he supports shutting down the government to defund Planned Parenthood in the wake of a series of controversial undercover videos of organization officials.

The Republican presidential contender was asked on The Hugh Hewitt show Monday night if he supported the move. "Well I can tell you this: I would," Trump replied.

Planned Parenthood has been under attack from Republicans over videos that show officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue for medical research. The pro-abortion rights group argues the videos have been heavily edited and are misleading, and that it only accepts compensation to cover expenses.

A procedural vote on the issue was filibustered by Democrats in the Senate on Monday.

Republicans were badly hurt in 2013 by the government shutdown, which was triggered by an effort to defund ObamaCare.

Trump said he also supported the move to defund ObamaCare in 2013.

"I was also in support if the Republicans stuck together you could have done it with ObamaCare also, but the Republicans decided not to stick together and they left a few people out there like Ted Cruz," he said. "You know, they left a lot of the people that really went in and wanted to do the job and you know what? If they had stuck together they would have won that battle."

"I think you have to in this case also, yes," he added.

Trump's statement is sure to put more pressure on Republicans to back defunding of Planned Parenthood, especially as his remarks come days before the first GOP debate.

Trump has led a series of polls measuring the support of GOP presidential candidates.

Absolutely Stalin; his crimes started long before WWII, when he was starving Ukraine into submission to make them give up their land to the collective.

A butcher is a butcher. But they can’t do it alone. There were thousands of little Dzerzhinskys, Himmlers, Heydrichs, Trotskys, and so on eager and ready to do the killing.

That’s the horrible part of it... Psychopaths bring other psychopaths a-runnin’.

Put on psychopath in a roomful of normal folk, and he’s quiet, trying to pretend to be normal; but put him in a roomful of other psychos and let him have power, and you get horror posing as the norm, as one feeds off the other’s lunacy and tries to top it.

History is full of these instances.

“The Gestapo and the SS worked hand in hand with each other.”

They’re the same thing in my book.

The others will talk about but I think the only one that could actually do it is Trump. Trump 2016!

The fact that PP mengela types were dickering over the price of aborted baby parts can be an editing trick how exactly?

The progressive PP eugenics crowd hasn’t a leg to stand on. They’re relying on the stupidity of the masses (constituents) to cover their tracks.

Too late, it’s all out there, complete with 8x10 glossy photos of all of the carnage and decimation.

Expect plenty of “shoot the messenger” rhetoric from the MSM and vested political class. q

First, I prefer Trump's directness. However, I believe that Cruz is saying the same thing ... just in a different way, due to Cruz trying to have others support him on this in the Senate.

Ted Cruz is trying to defund PP. In order to get all of the GOP senate and at least 7 RATs to vote to defund, he is being coy about who is 'shutting down the Government' and over what issue. It is preferable to achieve a successful cloture vote if it is the minority that is 'shutting down the government' rather than the majority.

I'm sure Ted Cruz would prefer to have the luxury of just saying ... "I ... would shut it down."

Well... the Gestapo had a large SS component in it. They were created from the local, county, and state level police forces and merged into one centralized National police force by Hermann Goering, before he was bumped up to Luftwaffe chief. Heinrich Himmler took over after that, and he had Reinhardt Heydrich as his second in command (until the Czech Resistance blew him away).

Gestapo was acronym for “Geheime Staats Polizei” - Secret State Police. They were divided into criminal police (for ordinary criminals) and political police (for supporession and elimination of “enemies of the state” (their mission description, not mine.)

Many Gestapo WERE SS, as they were an integral part of the system; they kept watch over the local police chiefs, sheriff equivalents, and others for political reliability.

The SS - Schutzstaffeln, or Protective Staff - started out as Hitler’s personal bodyguards, after he got nervous about the Nazi SA brownshirts (SturmAbteilungen - Storm Battalions) and their lunacy (they were the ones who brought Hitler to power originally). He used the SA to squash street level demonstrations; and when they wanted a bigger piece of the power pie, he had the SS and Gestapo murder their leadership (Night of the Long Knives) and neutralize them. Many of them became SS as well after that... better to be the guard than the guarded...

It was insidious. Read that book.

Yep.

And don’t forget Mao & Pot, either.

I’ve said it a few times on here: Germany should have been nuked just like Japan.

This stuff gets depressing. I’ll check out that book. I’ve seen the Olivier show...yep.

It was on the Hugh Hewitt show on Monday, not during the debate in NH. Sorry, I attributed to the debate.

Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina said Monday that Congress should shut down the government if necessary to defund Planned Parenthood. In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO agreed with a group of GOP senators, including fellow 2016 candidate Ted Cruz, that the abortion provider should lose its taxpayer funding.

"If it comes down to closing the government down or funding Planned Parenthood, what should the Republicans in the Congress do?" Hewitt asked the presidential hopeful.

"They should close the government down," Fiorina said flatly. "The point is this, however, we have a long way to go. And between now and then, beginning with this vote today, every single Republican out there, as well as I hope every media outlet, needs to ask the question that I have been asking for weeks: how does any Democrat justify the continued taxpayer funding of this organization?"

I think Ted is doing what he can. I don't think attaching riders to bills is the way to go about it. That is the least likely way to get the support you need in the senate, and the most likely way to get your actions misinterpreted by the public as "more of the same" in Washington.

You have the luxury of maybe one or two of these kinds of "position forcing" votes every 10 years, and if you can't be sure that it will absolutely paint the two sides as they need to be painted, it's usually counterproductive.
