He knows who he is, and what he believes. He does not say what he thinks others wish to hear, rather, what he himself believes.

I think this is one of the reasons for his rise.

Not so much the political leanings, although the foundation is a great and he is currently more to the right, but his honesty in answering questions directly, without running the thought through the mental political filter of what not to say.

People with allow some slack on political leanings for honesty.
