After shooting down the state's request for disaster aid for the second time last week, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Maryland could recover costs associated with rioting that broke out after the death of Freddie Gray in other ways.

Under the State Homeland Security Grant Program, the state has $251,049 in fiscal year 2013 funds and $5.9 million in fiscal year 2014 funds that have not been spent. Baltimore has $5.1 million and $5.5 million in unspent funds for fiscal years 2013 and 2014, respectively, under FEMA's Urban Area Security Initiative.

The FEMA spokesman, who declined to be named, also cited a U.S. Department of Justice program designed to provide financial assistance to local law enforcement in extraordinary circumstances that create potentially serious threats to public safety, such as civil unrest. In the past, for example, it's been used to help pay for overtime for law enforcement.

If the damaged was caused by their own citizens, then their own citizens should pay for it. It is not a disaster. it is vandalism.

If Federal money pays then NOTE TO EVERYONE, if you want a new town, just burn down your old one and the government will fund the rebuild.

The riots took place after a wink and nod from Baltimore’s mayor, and now the city government expects everyone else to pick up the tab?

It’s rather revealing that rather than repurpose the Federal funds they already had, their first instinct was to go to the feds and demand more. Guess they didn’t want to dig into their “stash”.

Payroll deduction from the Mayor of Mayhem’s paycheck. Might take a while, though.

Boy, Baltimore’s really taking it in the teeth. Red line’s canceled, jail’s being closed and no FEMA aid for riot damage.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer hellhole.

Maryland “Freak State” PING!
