Things got very awkward today when Chris Matthews asked DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz what the difference was between the modern Democratic Party and Socialism.

Odd that Matthews, of all people, would showcase this issue. When she didn’t respond the first time he could’ve just moved on and it would’ve helped his “side”. Instead, he continued asking the question. Hmmm...
I fear that this would have unintended consequences. It would legitimize the terms Socialism and Socialists. Bernie Sanders has done extreme damage in this vein by simply showing up on the national stage.
Heck, the Republican party is socialist. Not sure why this is a surprise.

Socialists have a coherent if flawed theory of government and economic regulation.
Democrats, on the other hand, favor some of the welfare programs implicit in socialism, but not the complete nationalization of production and distribution.
Unfortunately, today’s US “Democrats” are socialist, and beyond socialist, in most ways, and self-hating, anti-traditional American culture and interest. The useful idiots in the Democratic Party seek some vague utopia; the real socialists run the party and set the agenda. Look at Obama/Jarrett’s czars and other appointees, and the regulatory agenda of the EPA, HUD, HEW, and education, for example.
Chrissie really surprised me here, and on balance, probably surprised himself. He thought he was giving Debbie W-S an opportunity and platform.
Marx believed that current humans were not capable of communism. That's why he had socialism as a stepping stone. Marx believed that, with proper education and upbringing, people could BECOME worthy of Communism.
This is a central feature of Leftist thought: that humans are perfectable, that there is no difference between one human and the other, except for what can be attributed to how they were brought up.
The Left can be defined as those who believe the message of Satan: "You will be as Gods, knowing Good and Evil."
